Won't that be kind of a bummer for the Mad Dog guys? I mean, as the aircraft slows through 80 knots during the autopilot initiated deep stall on the ERLIN arrival, and they're trying to get the mirror to line up on the whiskey compass as they try to rejoin the arrival while inverted... and the 10-9 pops up? I guess you can't please everybody though.
Nicely done. :) I wonder if it will do similar when doing a circle to land into MDW like we did tonight and being asked to widen out when you're already at 1000 and turning in to the runway. |

I think there is an LOA that says we can only fly routes that compete wth Alaska using RJs. That way we don't take too much of little brother's candy.

New K. <--Just trying to make a correct observation. :) I'm expecting to see you in next year's CQ, newK. :D Of course you'll have to be wearing your gladiator helmet doing battle with a DC-9 that just won't leave ATL for VCV.... |

But I did spend 3 years on the bloody thing. Wondering if this gig was all it was cracked up to be at 4:30 AM in Cleveland in January standing on an aluminum ladder which was on an icy ramp with a 7 foot long piece of PVC in my hand. Real confidence inspiring. I have done quite a few 31 circle to land 22 at the old MDW. Wonder if I could even find the airport today. "It's 72 at O'Hare, 68 on the lakefront, and 73 at the Baby Doll Polka Club..." |

To be fair, it is very noticable they go out of their way to do the diversity thing for who is selected to be in the videos. I don't really care one way or the other except roll my eyes from time to time with the oversensitivity that there can be to show diversity. That being said, actually representing the pilot group would have a lot more average-ishlooking white guys with beers in their hands...

A gladiator helmet would be nice though. As far as the diversity thing goes, I've seen videos that are 100% one way, and videos, like this one, that were 33% the other way. Because we are all human, I've noticed both ways. But, I can honestly say that neither way has ever rubbed any skin off my nose. Especially, when it comes to who is wearing four stripes versus who is wearing three. But, like I said, to each his own. ;) |

I've done two of those flights on the DC-9. One to Stanford, FL and one to (??), Arizona. They don't fight, they just seem surprised when you tell them it's their last flight. After it settles in, they give you a quizzical look that kind of says, "Is that all you got?"

But, like I said, to each his own. ;) On the other hand, we had a 320 crew do a 260 knot overhead at 800 feet with a full load of pax into a central american destination earlier in the year... that one did get noticed. None of the diversity stuff has ever rubbed any skin off my nose, just sometimes gets an eye roll at the blatant oversensitive "we've got to show a rainbow!!" corporate HR culture that we see pop up these days. I know it's a response to many years of the opposite which is understandable, and I enjoy being insulated from that environment with the overall "you're a good pilot and fun to hang with, so you're cool" that goes on in our cockpits for the most part. The funny thing is, a surprising amount of the people that they have picked are people that I know. They are all sharp people that I've enjoyed being around. I'm not sure if they get anything extra for being in the PR stuff, but the ones I know are 100% deserving of it, regardless of how they were selected. |
