I know of a certain situation on a retirement flight where they decided that an overhead manuever was an appropriate final salute to a 757.Never heard about that one other than from the pilot himself.
On the other hand, we had a 320 crew do a 260 knot overhead at 800 feet with a full load of pax into a central american destination earlier in the year... that one did get noticed. None of the diversity stuff has ever rubbed any skin off my nose, just sometimes gets an eye roll at the blatant oversensitive "we've got to show a rainbow!!" corporate HR culture that we see pop up these days. I know it's a response to many years of the opposite which is understandable, and I enjoy being insulated from that environment with the overall "you're a good pilot and fun to hang with, so you're cool" that goes on in our cockpits for the most part. The funny thing is, a surprising amount of the people that they have picked are people that I know. They are all sharp people that I've enjoyed being around. I'm not sure if they get anything extra for being in the PR stuff, but the ones I know are 100% deserving of it, regardless of how they were selected. So, I think this is a fair question for all things involving Airbi: Was that maneuver done on purpose? :D |

One thing is for sure, we have a good group here. The strife I've heard about at other airlines is something I'm glad I don't have to deal with and I'm glad to be here discussing videos and their actors :)

Purple,
I spoke with a member of the eLink team in the ATL crew room a few months ago. They absolutely are shooting to give us that technology. Also spoke of setting up the software so that as the aircraft decelerates after landing, a certain speed(maybe 60 kts) triggers the 10-9 to pop up and replace the approach plate you were referencing. |

I hate it when they make videos like that where they are trying sooo hard to have "diversity" that it just seems condescending to the audience.
The tokenism and race/gender square filling is so blatantly obvious that it ends up making you feel vaguely uncomfortable and sorry for the people participating. Like they are being exploited and their status as a minority is the only reason they were chosen. Kinda works in reverse from the creator's intent. |
I've never been asked to be in a video because as a photographer once told me, the camera is not my friend. Nor is light. Put them together and it's just not fair to whoever is looking at the picture.
I'm still processing that because with the 717 I could be that guy at the end of the video that hits the FLy button. The 717 calls it AUTOFLIGHT but its damn near the same thing. For instance... Airplane: "WINDSHEAR WINDSHEAR!" pilot: "AUTOFLIGHT" Airplane: "roger, I've got it from here." (Not the delta procedure but some airlines do it that way) :D |
