To A-320 Captains,

Delta Air Lines informed the Association that, due to operational considerations and pursuant to PWA Section 7 F. 10., the company is proffering to liquidate January vacations for captains in the 320 categories.

Liquidations will be processed in seniority order based on operational needs. If you have a vacation in the January bid period, you can expect a call from the company with a proffer to liquidate that vacation. You may refuse the proffer and keep your scheduled vacation if that is your desire.

If you are interested in having your vacation liquidated or have any questions, please contact Crew Resources by emailing them at [email protected] no later than 1000 EST December 4th. If your seniority allows your vacation to be liquidated, you will be notified by email prior to 1800EST Dec 4th.

If your January vacation is liquidated, you will bid in PBS as if the vacation were never there. You will be paid for the liquidated vacation on 15FEB14. The pay will be in addition to earned pay and credit for the January bid period.

Are we upgrading guys to 320 A?

Orvil,

Pd was clear, but just to be clearer

GS only.

You will get your x days back or banked to use later and be paid single pay over the reserve guarantee.

You're right. I was thinking of the Atlas, which had to have the tanks pressurized if not full of fuel to prevent collapse from its own weight.

Yup, now that makes sense.

Thanks Purple and Scambo, That is just what I needed to know.

Wow. Sounds like old Northwest days, except they would just cancel it. :D

Let, me go look at the last AE to see how short they are.

It would seem that crew resources is being far too conservative in their calculus of required positions. They stated that they foresaw a need for additional 320 A's in the last update... so why were there no positions on the last bid? Waiting for a constantly moving block hour target from marketing will assure mayhem as they fall further and further behind and the training pipeline becomes full. If we are at the point of vacation sell back, then I would assume they don't believe they can staff the category with green slips and IA's. With more of these aircraft coming, I can't see why they don't just put the bid out!!

That particular provision is very damaging to every Delta pilot.
It is a pure sale of our jobs. For cheap.

DALPA "constructively engaged" big time on that one.

My apologies to gzsg.

No worries.

A read the language and all I see prohibiting wholesale liquidation of vacation is a 60 day notification of the Scheduling Chairman.

Selling vacation has serious productivity consequences. If it becomes the norm, it will drastically slow upgrades and effect everyone except those with a seniority number under 100.

When was this language agreed to? I can't believe there is not a penalty like double pay to discourage continual use (abuse).

Another more serious consideration is safety. Given our concessions and loss of pensions, most will sell their vacation if given the opportunity. We are approaching the point where our pilots are flying right to the FAR maximums. Old and tired.

Management's greed will not abate until they lose a hull.

The trail of cuts is everywhere. Training by DVD. Eliminating the crew bunk on the A 330. Selling vacations. Upping the ALV by 2 hours. 99 hours of flying for reserves.

And they are just getting warmed up. I have heard management has a list of 30 cuts they want to make to training.

Maybe our new MEC chairman will understand that making concessions during record profits, dividends and stock buybacks is not necessary. (Not holding my breath)

At least our Chief Operating Officer Steve Gorman got a 60.8% raise on his non bankruptcy pay. We are going to have to make more concessions to keep up that pace on increase for our management.
