And per SD, the Jepp FlightDeck Pro app will be simultaneously developed for iPad and distributed via AWCL...

I have heard grumblings that at this point the whole eLink initiative is considered a "toy" for the pilots by upper mgmt...

Microsoft ready to kill Windows RT | Technology | theguardian.com

Once again, there is a reason that people and business aren't buying the Surfaces (Pro and RT) and are buying iPads...

Also, the iPad in various has 3 and a half years of maturity, software development and associated skills in addition to the years of iPhone knowledge (which is very similar). Surface has.. what? A year?

<sigh>

Just look at the TV ads. Apple shows off all the things you can do with the iPad. Microsoft shows how dancing people can click a keyboard (that's a $120 option) to the Surface.

It certainly had (had) potential, but the implementation has been entirely bush league. We have an IT department. But since our company is so deeply siloed, we allowed a corporate customer to unload a brick- did anybody in flight ops think to run this by IT? This is a huge gaffe. And I think we all saw it coming.

So will they go forward with the Windows Pro or scrap the whole thing?

Sounds like our nation's current health care train wreck.

I'm telling you, the Surface 2 is good hardware and a terrific OS concept for an enterprise (secure) platform.

But, if Microsoft pulls the plug then Delta is spending a lot of money to write software for a system that is a dead end.

The hardware does seem good. But it's going to have to be full Windows or else another device. I doubt Android would be secure enough. So that leaves IPad, which we are already supporting. I wouldn't mind a Surface Pro. At least I could run the Navtech bid software...

Mngt should take a deep breath and say 'Sorry' to MS and make the call to Cupertino. The only people not singing praise will be MS, and do we REALLY care?

Baja.

Yup. The vault letter that doesn't exist.

You know Richard likes Cheap. We are still flying the DC 9's and buying used MD90's and we just ordered 10 A330's and Zero big Boeings.

Why?

Because they are CHEAP.

You can't get much cheaper than FREE. Richard wanted Microsoft as a huge corporate client and Microsoft just happened to have a bunch of tablets laying around, unsold. Can you say Frequent Flyer Miles?

Did anyone really think he was going to PAY Apple for 40,000 tablets, when Microsoft was going to give us theirs for free?

Not to worry, we are going to be making a ton of money out of SEA, due to hauling Microsoft Execs around the world. Never mind the OS, you'll figure it out eventually while you are flying our new A330's from SEA to everywhere, it'll give you something to play with, while you can't get any rest in that Crew Rest seat in Business Class.
