While true, the PWA limit is scheduled...if you are scheduled for a 11:50 flight with 3 man, you can go over for unforseen circumstances, pre-takeoff.

Pt. 117 states you cannot go over 13 hrs....there are no pre-takeoff extensions allowed.

There are a couple of instances like this, where the PWA is limiting, but can be pushed...the new Regs all have absolute limits.

I thought maybe in advance of tonight's game, we could have a battle of FTB's and 80's avatars...Maybe a knife fight or something.

Cherry;

You seem like a union guy, does any of this 117 wrangling make a stronger case for re-upgrading or adding more class 1 rest facilities to various fleets?

If you haven't seen the article by USA Today's business moron Christopher Elliot...give it a look. Hopefully APLA is preparing a response. Sadly he probably reflects the misinformed opinion of the traveling public.

Should foreign airlines be allowed to fly domestic routes? | The Journal News | lohud.com | lohud.com

You know last I checked buses and trains were still viable options for travelers....
Falls right in line with our society's sense of entitlement.

It seems to me that the entire business case for USA Today is based on criticizing airlines (and helping out people with wood-burning fireplaces). Ironically, we help promote it by distributing on airplanes, for passengers with recent lobotomies that are only allowed very light brain activity (and for those who crave the crossword puzzles).

They're not too kind on any other business related to the travel industry either, yet every crap hotel distributes them.

I never know whether to be greatly flattered, or slightly offended, when my particular crap hotel give one to other guests, and not to me.

It was going to be a good pic but then 80 played a mental game on me.

1) I'm always amused by the letters to the editor in the McPaper. They seem to be penned by semi-literate cave-dwellers. They're enough to make a cat laugh (apologies to Chris Hitchens.) Contrast this with the letters to the WSJ or NYT -- All written by diplomats, CEO's and academics, or at least people who seem to have a basic grasp of the English language.

The McPaper has always had an axe to grind against the airline industry.

2) Complete deregulation and borderless markets are exactly what the talking heads on CNBC, Fox Business and those who opine in the WSJ advocate.

From this I infer that negotiations are not progressing well.

(MEC Chairman's letter from today)

I want your MEC’s position understood by each and every pilot on this property: We believe our PWA to be inviolable, and it only changes by mutual agreement between the pilot’s bargaining agent (ALPA) and Delta Air Lines. Neither side is empowered to unilaterally change the protections afforded us under our contract. We disagree with the company’s stated position, particularly involving a pilot’s long call obligation (see MEC Alert 13-21). We believe that in this case the PWA is more restrictive than FAR 117 and we will defend any pilot who is threatened with loss of pay or discipline for following the PWA. The Delta MEC will continue to defend each section of our PWA; we will exhaust every avenue to protect your rights.
