There's lots of valid reasons to ys on reserve. If you're a commuter and don't want to have to sit short call in a hotel or crash pad. I ys if I know I'm going to get a trip to pick the better one out of opentime, to put yourself over guarantee, or sometimes you can get an extra day off by ys a 3 day or a 4 day when you have 4 or 5 days availability. You gotta make the best out of reserve and don't understand why people make a big deal out of yellow slipping....

What the writer fails to admit is, the reason the US Legacy service has been in a race to the bottom for the past 20 years is, guys like HIM don't want to pay for better service. He also fails to mention that the number one expense for any airline operating large jets is, FUEL. Look at what a gallon of Jet A costs today, vs. 20+ years ago, yet his ticket price is nearly identical to what it was 20 years ago. Is there ANYTHING else in our economy that you can buy for the same price you paid 20 years ago? :rolleyes: He does mention, several times, that allowing foreign carriers to fly our domestic routes would lead to "...better service, at lower ticket prices." So after 20 years of losing BILLIONS of dollars, and every major legacy going bankrupt, the legacies have -finally- figured out how to make money, he wants to let foreigners fly the US Domestic market, so he can keep paying $200 for a ticket to the west coast. He wants it all, he wants it now, but he doesn't want to PAY for it.:rolleyes: I think we should allow foreigners (in China and India) to write for USA Today! We could get a better newspaper, for less, not that I've ever paid for a USA Today in the first place! :D ....... |

Exactly. Some people don't get it. The guy who missed out on the GSWC prob hasn't sat reserve and is out of touch with it.

Cherry;
You seem like a union guy, does any of this 117 wrangling make a stronger case for re-upgrading or adding more class 1 rest facilities to various fleets? The cynical me says that the spreadsheet for potential revenue on those added seats is a mathmatical "certainty", while cancelling a flight because of degraded rest facility is only a "soft theoretical" possibility. You and I know that all it takes is one or two diverts or canx due to FDP to zero out whatever possible revenue they might have gotten out of those seats. If you look at the tables, you essentially lose an hour of FDP for going down one Class of facility. Even if you have to MEL whatever you have, you probably can go...but it gets tighter on the time. (Check those snaps and curtains!) There's a new APB that outlines all the various Rest Facilities by tail number...and the backup plan (ie what biz class seat if the condo is out). A very interesting note 1 is that on some planes, the dedicated Flight Attendant Rest facility has been approved by the FAA to act as a Class 2...and can be used to maintain operation integrity, with VP approval. Would love to see that scenario play out. I think the ship has sailed on the facilities we lost (330), and that sucks....but a strong case could be made for keeping what we got. I know I have a hard time sleeping on the 767 and the 757 is down right ridiculous. 8 |

Got one better, Had a GSWC in on Friday night in JFK that would have gotten me home a day earlier and it went instead to a reserve who put in a yellow slip.
GSWC are so far down the assignment tree, they're very rare. Take a look at your contract before you make such bold statements |
