Simpler yet: have guys been getting Reserve GS with no problem, and no special lead-time on their X-days?

I am on reserve and was called this month for 2 green slips on my X days. Both cases were show times within a few hours so to answer your question, I believe GS's are treated the same for reserves on X days as line holders. One of them was a 7 day greenie that reported in 3 hours from the time of the call. That was a bummer to have to pass up!

Vacation 'primary' bids are posted….I thought they weren't going to be posted till Sunday. Not complaining, just a bit surprised.

My take is this, and it's worth two cents, or less, but....Get into Indoc class, which is a week or so. Finish class, while having explained that Momma is due any second now. Once you've finished Indoc, you have your ID and can jumpseat home ASAP if needed. While in Indoc, bid MD88 or 717 FO, so you can be higher on reserve, or off reserve in minimum time. That wouldnt happen in the Airbus or 737 fleets as fast. I suspect you may have some wait time after Indoc before aircraft training begins, and could be home or in hospital while waiting. If you ask for time off after Indoc, they can put you in a later 88 or 717 class, which will probably occur bi-weekly for the next five years. Training would be able to be more flexible with moving someone in an aircraft class than moving someone to a later Indoc class. I also don't think this would affect your probation, if you're worried about that. Looking over my shoulder, Mrs. Chomeur says take the job first, then take wife and new baby on vacation with new job's benefits. Now you can advise wife that a woman said to do it, which is defensible in a woman court of law.

Awesome! We, as well as both sets of grandparents, reside in ATL. Support network is set. I really just want to have a day or 2 to wrap my head around being a new parent. Also curious as to how it would affect probation, don't want to screw that up. Darwin's luck, day one of class.....wife goes into labor!

Thanks again for the advice lads. See y'all real soon!

As I understand it, short notice slips of any color do not require the 10 hours notice since you are volunteering for the flying and therefore are taking personal responsibility for being rested. Short notice IA's are legal but only as a proffer - they cannot require you to accept it. Another way to look at it is ANY assignment (except for SC) with less than 10 hours notice is a proffer only.
BTW - all of this applies to the 10 hour notice requirement only. ALL other 117 limitations still apply.

My oldest was born 5 days after my DL interview - talk about perfect timing! I ended up with a month and a half of paid baby leave from my old job while I waited for my class date  I think you will find DL to be very accommodating. Good luck and welcome!

Probation: Delta is your best friend until you give them a reason not to be. Now more than ever, they will be looking at your attitude. Say it again. Attitude. Got a problem in the sim? How is your attitude? Are you glad to be on the team, what can I do to help?, just want to do the best I can.. or is it 'all about you', do you blame others, is there 'friction'?

Same goes with your situation. Of course everyone will be happy for you, and supportive at Delta. It's a great thing, after all, having a baby! So how you approach it is key. Giving Delta the heads up, letting them know you'll be flexible, and then when the time comes, just tell them what's going on. I'm sure if you put your situation in the hands of the coordinator, he or she will ensure that you are able to be there for the birth. I would just 'roll with it' after you've told the coordinator about your situation. Let them handle the details and just go by what they say.

After a couple weeks off, up all night with my (then) newborn twins, I was calling Crew Scheds every hour, BEGGING for a trip!

"I'll go ANYWHERE! I just want to get some sleep!"

You won't "get" being a dad until you see your baby...then, it's automatic. Congratulations!
