In the spirit of posting DAL related news links.

Do you think this an attempt to pay down "bad debt" to loosen up more capital in case a bidding war starts up between us and AMR over the JAL deal?

Or a terminal in JFK.

Hahaha, yeah I know. I just wanted to see if there was something you were hiding. :)

On a more serious note, does anyone know whats going on with the FAA looking at the rest issues? Any idea on what's being proposed?

I am not hiding anything, but yes, there are a few things that I want to develop before I talk more about them.

My second though was this. AMR will try to bail out JAL with BA. It will weaken both of their already dismal balance sheets to the point of necessitating decisions they do not want to take. IE T-8/.

I believe this is correct as well. It makes sense. The rules are being put into place to combat fatigue due to overwork and due to circadian rhythm. Overworking is the 8 legs a day thing, and circadian rhythm is the all nighter flights--ala Europe, Pac rim, S.A.

This may very well be a benefit for us not only in safety. but numbers as well. No doubt that this will be an issue in C2012 with sections 12 and 23.

I was a bit nervous when I heard Babbitt speak on this at the 2009 AVSEC conference. He asked, "Who is more tired, the guy who flew one leg over to Europe or the guy who flew 8 legs in and out of NY all day?" Of course, he wanted to say the guy in NY. My answer was, "Both." Been there, done both, and both are wiped out.

Exactly. I hate getting up at 12 AM whether it is on the west coast for a red eye or in Europe for a 10 hr flight home. Eight legs a day does it too. Both are fatiguing in the own right. I hope they develop a system that promotes more schedules in the middle of the rules and not at the extremes.

I agree with Sailing. We need to see these rule changes. They have stated that they will not be one size fits all.

They have talked in theory only about needing extra pilots next summer. I am sure that their 411 on this has precipitated this chatter. In the end the only thing that matters is what the final results are.

Also I do not see all of these rules taking effect for 12 months after they are published.

Well, if you got info, spill it!

What I said earlier. Improving the short haul domestic duty day while degrading the medium haul intl. IE Europe flying. I hope what I heard was wrong or we will have mucho MDs.

It may be part of it, but the gist of what I have been hearing is that this will not be a one size fits all!

Apparently Wall St. is liking our position. AMR's value is just over $2b, UAL is around $1.3b, LCC is hovering around $600m, and DAL is right up there with SWA with a market cap of around $9b. Following the big money says they like our position more so than anyone else right now.

Yes, SWA and our market cap is less than 200,000,000.00 apart
