Buzz, they do not care what you do after you leave the airport.

I'm not surprised by these turn of events, only saddened. Its obvious that DAL management is cutting regionals out of the strategic picture. Fly through CVG on any day and check it out. Its a ghost town. As a previously furloughed DAL guy, I never had hopes that a Compass flow would come to fruition. Would I have accepted it? I don't know. Maybe. Would it have held Delta accountable to its pilot force? You bet.
This industry has changed forever. Those of us who made the doctor v. lawyer v. pilot decision years ago have lost the roll of the dice. Its still fun and it still beats what's happening in the private sector, but not by much. I, for one, don't have any faith in "my" union or "my" reps. They represent the company and their own individual interests....not mine, or ours. As a new hire in 2001, I remember distinctly the DALPA guy telling us that we had been hired into the "last job we'd ever have." I've had 5 since then. Color me suspicious and jaded. In the meantime, I'll fly the best and safest jet I can, just don't ask me to care on the drive home from the airport. I think our union is taking some increasingly worrying liberties, or at least not communicating candidly or effectively with us, but I don't see how this plays into it. |

I always believed the union has had the best interests of the whole group. However, many recent events has me seriously doubting union leadership. We need more transprency. We cannot let select few to destroy what is left of our jobs. We cannot let a few people dictate their own personal interests on behalf of all of us. Like ACL said....let us wait for the facts behind this deal. Scope is a very big issue....unfortunately it looks like there is a huge disconnect between the membership and the leadership. Most of the pilots here don't care who is representing them as long as they are doing a hell of a good job at it. If ALPA cannot cut it, we need to find something which will work for us before we get it in the a$$ again. After all there is no DALPA without our dues. Soon, pilots will start refusing to pony up their hard earned cash to serve the interests of the select few. DALPA....you better communicate and better do it soon....

I want more, and better communications. I don't know whether this is a good or bad thing, but I want more info. I also want it before we make statements about this Compass issue. For starters, I want someone to give me a rational, dispassionate explanation as to why we need the Compass guys on our MEC. I get the fact that some think folding in Compass (the airline, into our airline) is actually possible, or realistic. Let's call this an inclusion approach. Some think we have no leverage to force a merger of the airlines, and want to deal with all DCI flying the same way: by reducing or eliminating outsourcing. Let's call this a exclusion approach. Whether we want to solve the problem via exclusion or inclusion, is a startegic issue. I'm open to either. I'm a Delta pilot. I want all Delta flying done by Delta pilots. Period. |

This is why I don't think ALPA cares what happens with mainline. They don't lose their dues so what the problem. |

+1 on this statement.

I don't want a communications person from DALPA. We want the people who voted. Hell, even the daily briefings from any White House will occasionally have the press secretary step to the side and the President come and field questions. If they believe they did the right thing they'd be clamouring for the opportunity to explain the vote. I'd honestly like to hear it. And if they don't want to explain it then guess what we'll do? Fill in the blanks and then vote. ... And by the way, Jetblue pilots from last night and today in JFK, kiss my ass. No wonder JFK ATC hates you so much, you earned it by acting stupid. |
We should ask the question, why the dramatic split in the vote. What would we lose by keeping Compass within our group, and what was the possible gain by tossing them out.
