For me to grab food, stand in line and eat it while it is warm; it take a quick 20-35minutes (depending on the line). 4 legs with a protein bar
and juice? I will starve to death.

45 minute break on a multi leg, over 8hr flying day is not enough time to stand in line, purchase and inhale one's food.

Why is Delta setting us up for failure? I want my flights to be on time. I am a professional I dont want to **** off the passengers and FAs by being late because I am hungry. Plus doing this will make a name for yourself at the CPO office. I hate walking on to a loaded airplane, late, with a bag of fast food (real professional). By the time you get to eat your food it is cold, plus you have taken a nice delay thus ****ing off the FAs/CO/PAX. With the 117 rules, you will be pushing it also.

When I was a fairly senior FO, flew YYR to DTW, turn was shortened due to MX, so just sucked it up and then flew to SLC. Still had to go to MSP, so I asked the Captain ( Long sleeve guy if you know what I am saying) if he wanted anything to eat as we were deplaning in SLC.

"You are gonna cut it pretty close aren't you?"

"I wasn't asking permission"

Fairly quiet flight home (left on time BTW). Told myself I would never be that guy.

^^^^^ As a professional Delta pilot, I strive to be the brand and embrace our customers. When I am forced (by the company) to haul ass down the jetway with a bag of unhealthy easy-to-come-by food product, it's embarrassing and I'm sure not what we want to be purveying to our customers. What's even worse, IMHO, is walking off the jet and see a fellow pilot scarfing a Big Mac at the gate in front of his soon-to-be passengers. That cannot instill a lot of warm fuzzies with the pax.

Certainly, if we're concerned about flight safety and projecting a professional image, the company can agree to a couple of crew meals (what, maybe $10 for two pilots?) and an additional five or ten minute turn time?

Well said Buzz! Btw, our "frenemies" at Alaska get food provided by the company pretty much every leg.

If you are an 01 hire then you will remember that we got crew meals after C2K. There were triggers that would show up on your rotation, like they do now, showing that you should have a crew meal at the next stop. Problem was they would be left at the gate a lot of times and not refrigerated. So you would pull up and grab your now deadly, think sandwich with mayo that sat out, crew meal that was unedible due to improper handling but the company met it's obligation. There were a lot of white boxes left around the airport.

If you need nutrition then stop and get something. You do not help your family when you go out on medical because you thought you would be a super trooper and go all day without proper food.
Plus the fact that the company considered their "crew meal obligation" fulfilled by putting the code on your rotation. If a station/catering
screwed up the fulfillment, DAL said "too bad"

Try this, I have twice in the last year. Short turns all day long with delays making them shorter. I just call dispatch prior to the leg when we would normally eat and tell them we will require meals or the next leg will be delayed while we get food. Now the ball is in their court and better yet recorded. Any grief and get the FAA involved.
8 hours behind the door
I don't see what the big deal on this is. With a minimum 10 hour layover we should normally get 8 1/2 to 9 hours at the Hotel. If you get delayed - call crew tracking and have the time adjusted.

As long as the FAA sees 8 hours behind the door as legal we are good to go. If you need more time - take it! It would be nice if ALPA pushed the 8 hour issue, but I guess they are satisfied with 8 hours behind the door which by the way, we should abbreviate to 8 HBTD. .

Perhaps we should push for a clarification of the 8 hour by the FAA if there is some doubt about it. Seems DALPA thinks the FAA is good with it.

We have two separate issues here:

1. Compliance with the regulations FARs, FOM etc. Well if DAL and the FAA are both satisfied with 8 HBTD then thats fine with me.
2. Showing up for a flight well rested. If 8 hours ain't enough - take more time. Call crew tracking and have your time adjusted.

I certainly hope the guys who are not satisfied with 8 hours take the time they need. I personally am fine with 8 hours as I normally sleep about 7 hours but everyone is different.

And for crying out loud - if you have a minimum time layover forget about ironing the shirt!
