Course, then the pitchpoles get even more dramatic!

Wow that is an amazing picture. I had no idea they could go that fast. Impressive. Are they using a lot of carbon fiber?

They did not dock my pay.

As other's have touched on, I can't see that you did anything wrong in the scenario as you have described.

You had already acknowledged your sc assignment. You were not required to answer your phone at midnight. Per our contract you have no obligation to immediately respond to a long-call assignment during the two hours that you were on long-call (0000-0200, 10 prior to the start of your short call).

And yes, it seems they could have just given you the assignment at 1200 when your short call started. Why they didn't is a good question. It would have needed to be one very late ending day for duty day to have been an issue. You would have been legal until well after midnight (lesser of: table B plus 4 hours or 16 hours) as a short call pilot. Provided there weren't over 4 legs, unless I am mistaken, you would have been legal until 4am.

I think a logical solution would be to combine tracking and scheduling into one department. Section off a corner of the occ and plant the merged operation there where they can coordinate with dispatch, mx, weather etc.

I have never understood why they are separated or why tracking doesn't know if I am a reg/rsv, going into vacation, a ** day or another conflicted trip or any other number of things that requires scheduling or the pilot to check--and then request a change to a reroute.

While we are at it lets give crew accommodations a desk there too so we can eliminate another phone call and twenty minutes on hold.

Maybe there is a good reason why all these operations need to be separate entities scattered around the campus, but I can't think of any. Having one umbrella would simplify things on a good day, really help during bad irops and probably save some money by reducing overlapping functions. Just some thoughts from a line pilots point of view.

I've had the same thing happen. 10am sc on the first day. And the notification for the 10am short call came after midnight, so the far 117 prospective rest of 10 hours wasn't even there. (no, did not do the sc. It was taken off after I called about it)

And yes, sked check was done the day before, after 1500 base time. Nothing was there, so long call.

Well, crew accommodations is not even a Delta department. They are a third party company that is in some off site location in ATL. Payroll is the same way.

Delta management has confirmed to 9E management that they believe they will hire 600-650 pilots this yea,r and next year at least. However, they only have approval for 300???

Edit, I guess Delta HR is also putting together prep sessions for the 9E guys.

The 1500 local schedule check on your last off day is not required anymore under 117. We are only required by the contract to now check our schedule no later than 0200 base time on the first on call day. This is where the limit for no SC before 1200 comes from because we then need 10 hours to rest for SC or a trip. So no longer a need for the 1500 check because it does no good due to the 10 hour rest now required if that makes sense. Kind of confusing.

Giddyup! Now lets get that A-350 order signed, a SEA narrowbody base, and 2014 will be a good year.

That would jive with what our director of Crew Resources and Scheduling stated at a roadshow.
