On the Super Bowl thing, like most big games it will probably come down to;

1. Turnovers
2. Penalties

Just ask Sherman or Crabtree about that!

And if you are Alabama;

3. Last second field goal attempts.

Charity? Not hardly. I'm not sure how you got that. I am saying they do their job and, based on the money they rightfully put back in our pockets, they do it well. I agree that we pay for that service.

Thanks,

Speaking of- what is the min sit time for us to be required to be given a hotel? I got rerouted into a 4:55 one yesterday (while descending through 11,000 feet back into mecca... talk about a distraction- probably should ASAP that one). I didn't particularly mind it since my parents were passing through trying to get home and it was nice getting to spend time with them.
Section 5 E.1.d looks like it would cover both of these. Timbo is right on the 5 hours.

1. The Company will provide adequate and comfortable single occupancy lodging for a pilot who is:
.......
d. at a station (at or away from base) at which the pilot is scheduled for block-in to block-out time of more than five hours (upon the pilot’s request).

You don't get a hotel if you are a RES and you end up getting a domicile layover during a rotation....just REG pilots get those.

I think the reg says 5 hours but here's my story. Sign in at 0030 for a GDL turn. No CA. Do multiple preflights and board/unboard jet twice anticipating a CA show. Finally, at 6.:00 AM I call crew tracking, tell them out out on my feet and need to crash for few hours. They hook me up with the airport Hilton where I get three hours or so of sleep and an ironed uni. Huge relief!

There is no such thing as a domicle layover for a reserve. They have to release you from the trip.

OUCH! Back when I was commuting to reserve, I was able to beg a domicile layover out of them a few times, not for the 5hr. break, but for an overnight when we'd get rerouted and unexpectedly stuck in ATL to continue the next day.

Just be nice when you ask Crew Accomodations, see if they've got any empty rooms, and try to sound like you are crying, just a little bit, that always helped me...

If all else fails, try to score a clean white blanket and head for the black chairs! If it's too loud in A, head for E. But bring earplugs, those INT guys snore really loudly!

You may have to go over to the F/A lounge to find the blankets!

And here's a heads up for anyone flying a west coast allnighter into the ATL, or returning from deep south or DXB. Last week they were on a drug/alcohol testing binge, they were hitting a few peeps off every inbound flight, but our notification didn't show up until after engine shutdown!

I was just about to get off the jet, after all the pax, and I returned to the cockpit for one last look to see what I'd forgotten, when I hear the Ping of the printer. I rip off the 4" slip of paper coming out and there's MY name on it, along with 3 of our F/A's!

I'd just completed my PDP! So had all our F/A's, and we were all heading for our commute flights! But we were in F concourse, at 05:30, so we had to go all the way down to the A concourse F/A lounge to be tested. There we found about 20 other crewmembers waiting to be tested.

I had to sit and drink water for about an hour until I could provide the required sample size! Luckily my flt. home wasn't until 8. But I complained to them that they had 15 hours to notify us, and we didn't get the message until after engine shutdown, at 05:30!!??

They claimed they had sent the message at 04:00, soo....?

Next time, I'm going to hold my water until I'm at my homebound flt.'s gate.

Good luck men, we're all counting on you, and hold it until you get through Customs, or risk waiting to gen up another sample.
