Can 777 flight systems be hacked from a pax seat or even the ground?
The FAA apparently thinks so.

edit: that website is getting hammered right now since Drudge linked to it. Might take a couple minutes to open.

Denny

They usually avoid any info of that sort until it is imminent, i.e., the bid is coming out. Marketing has burned them in the past...

You have to crunch the numbers and decide if a SEA base will reduce your costs. If there is a cost reduction you then have to decide if you can get a bigger cost reduction by using your limited training capacity at another base. Lots of moving parts in those calculations and you have to add the variable of marketing changing their mind like I change socks. I think for the next 24 months they have decided where they are going to focus and put that out. After that perhaps something in the west. If they want a 717 base in the west it needs to happen before the deliveries are complete. Much cheaper to open a base with increasing block hours then to do it later and have to displace.

As it stands right now, you're right. They don't need any more categories in the west. Some other information I've heard, which marketing will have to abide by, if true, is that we are preparing to go all out on the west coast, lots of mainline stuff directly competing with SWA and ALK. We'd need gates in SEA to do it, so that's a factor. Having a different aircraft type (717 vs a 737) would help alleviate any anti-competition blowback from the DOJ. (different cost structure) All rumor at this point. 88 is a lot of airplanes. We don't need them all in DTW and ATL. Might see 'em in NYC for the shuttle, but also just a rumor now.

This was a little cleanup bid from the last AE.

Stoked not having to fly to the other coast to go to work, I am.

If no training you can be converted out of seniority.

I suspect that will continue through mid summer however they will be small bids. The company likes to limit surplus bodies in the school house during the busy months. Late summer early fall should see bids with substance. A little bird told me the summer schedule is going to be aggressive and they are going to hurt for crews.
