Buddy Pass question:
My buddy wants to fly out of ATL into Brussels, tour for a week, then fly back to ATL from Zurich. I think I'll need to burn two separate passes since he's not a 'round trip' to BRU, is that correct, or will it let you do that on one pass? Thanks in advance for any insight. And got first to boot... doesn't work with one great team though, RT only. |

Can a 777 autoland on an RNAV approach?
Former MD-88 pilot here, we can't autoland an MD90 on an ILS. Although, you can select it. There may however be a lack of programming logic for that maneuver. The way an rnav or gps approach is set up to work in the aircraft logic is that (assuming you don't click off the autopilot at da minus 50) is to fly down the descent path down the centerline, level off at 50 ft agl and fly down the centerline of the runway. IOW, don't try it. |

Just got done reading the latest True Headings.
Predictably DPA pulled another ready, fire aim on the whole Lee Moak "makes > $1M a year" lie they put out last week. Anybody still hitching their cart to that horse? TheManager, anything to add? Care to send TC a message that we're over this BS and ready to move forward together towards C2015? Btw, for those that didn't read the True headings, the crux was there was a mandatory IRS rule applied to an annuity that resulted in a large imputed income amount being listed on the form that DPA was referencing. Lee didn't see an extra penny, much less the 48% pay bump they claim. So much for them putting in "hours of research on your behalf." <------Direct quote from the opening paragraph of the DPA Crew Van News/Lies... The irony is that DPA criticizes DALPA for the same exact things they make it a habit of practicing. |

ALPA should have protected the CAL pilots jobs when they went on strike in 1983, and the EAL pilots jobs in 1989, when they stood up to Frank Lorenzo. But, Frank Lorenzo was a Houston business man, and one of his good friends was (and still is) George Bush Sr. My reply to Timbo. Sadly, it will never happen now. I checked in on Ben's board last night and threw up a little in my mouth. Apparently Lee Moak had 1,278,000 reasons not "to rock the boat at national" last year, or probably ever. I am an ALPA supporter, but that is obscene and indefensible. Before that little bomb shell went off I would have said DPA was in grave condition on life support and drifting into the dirt nap. That movement just snapped out of it and sat up straight in bed while yanking out the IVs. Phuque! Just when I thought they were in the death swirl in the bowl and gonna be gone. Why is this bad? Here's why! That little Moak nugget set back any chance at unity building for a long time. So much for getting our $hit together before section 6. So ****ed I'd kick the dog if I had one. Might have to let the cat out back instead. There are a set of hawks building a nest in one of my palm trees! I have not read the True Headings. I hope there is a great explanation to diffuse this. That would be great. What would have been excellent is getting out in front of the issue with a True Headings. How about having the numbers broken down with explanations before TC and followers could exploit it. |

Is it really possible under the PWA to check one's schedule without acknowledging it? I gotta think it's tough to answer the mail on that when the CPO calls.

It's not certified for that type of operation, but theoretically it could...during descent on path, the flt control computer takes constant stabilized vector path updates. If you lost all rnav input, the vector would freeze in its last known stabilized state. There is some time limit to this, but no wind, it shouldn't matter. The flare is done off altitude. So theoretically it could auto land out of an rnav.

But if they were using the RNAV and pulled the CBs for the other stuff, makes me wonder if a satelite can say "yeah man, I talked to GPS receiver X4124891DF1029 at 02:21.04 and he was here, and at .05 here..." ? |

in defense of the movie, I enjoyed it. But my kids love it. So I love it. |

We were going into Dubai last week, it was the F/O's leg but he needed to fill the Cat III App. square, so we did an autoland to fill the square. The wx was clear and a million, a slight crosswind, maybe 8kts from the left, but a steady wind, zero turb. It flared smoothly, put the left main down very, very gently, then the right, then lowered the nose very gently. We were all stunned at how nice it was! WOW! It was the nicest autoland I've ever seen! Now, sure, the 777 is the easiest, softest landing plane that I have flown, but usually when we do an autoland, it's firm. Not hard, but you know you've landed. So does everyone in the back. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. I don't know if maybe there was a little gust in the flare or what, but I have never seen an autoland like that! It just rolled on so gently, left main first, then the right, slowly, you could barely tell we were on the ground. It was an 11! That was so sweet I think I'd let it try to land out of an RNAV, or heck, even autoland out of a visual, with the autopilot off, just like the Asiana guys did! What could go wrong? :D |
