Can a 777 autoland on an RNAV approach?

Former MD-88 pilot here, we can't autoland an MD90 on an ILS. Although, you can select it.

What..... the MD90 can't autoland???? First I've heard of it.

it was the F/O's leg but he needed to fill the Cat III App

Figures. His only chance at landing a 777 all year and he's got to do the autoland.

That's funny and may even be true. I've always given away a lot more landings that I've taken. I only take one per month, give the other two to the F/O's. Nobody is getting many landings when there are always 4 pilots and only two landings.

I was an F/O on the MD11 so I know how hard it is to get a landing, that's why I give away 2 out of 3. The good news is, if you've spent a lot of time on the 767/757, you don't need many on the 777 to stay sharp, it's the same thing, only easier! ;)

2 out of 3 is above and beyond. I get it. The mission just doesn't permit much stick time. Thankfully, the aircraft is as forgiving as everyone says it is and the sims do a good job.

It's not just that the airplane is good, which it is, but we don't have to land in what I would consider "challenging" conditions, ever.

Most of the airports we serve are 'major' destinations, with long runways, and we get a 20 mile straight in to an ILS.

Not exactly hard to do, in any airplane.

But the 777 just about does it for you, until it doesn't.

I only wish we got to fly the river visual to DCA or PDX, or the Expressway to JFK, or land on 33R in BOS! :D Those were the most fun.

If you're spending a lot of time on the 757/767, then you are flying a lot of domestic trips and are already sharp! My problem is trying to remember how to fly transoceanic. Once or twice a year ain't cutting it.

Is it really possible under the PWA to check one's schedule without acknowledging it? I gotta think it's tough to answer the mail on that when the CPO calls.

When I'm on reserve, I'll just keep on setting my alarm for 0155 to check my schedule, until the LOA is done. Gives the negotiators some leverage.

I doubt you will get anything earlier than 1200 on your first on call day. They have basically been following that rule other than trying to sneak in a few 1000 AM reports here and there. If they try something earlier than noon then set your alarm and wake up at 0155 to ack whatever they put on there. Other than that, you have to ack anything after 1200 so you just as well ack it before you go to bed and forget about it because you have to contractually show up for that.

No need to set your alarm other than on your first on call day. The rest of the days you just don't ack anything until 3 hours prior no matter when they put it on your schedule. The PWA is black and white there. SD's memo didn't grey that out any in my mind.

When hiring was cranking back in 07-08 and 2010, were LAX and SLC available to new hires? How about going forward? Still pretty senior bases I take it?
