We had a newb on our flight to Dubai a couple weeks ago. He left Emirates as a 777 Capt. to come to DL as a 717 F/O, seemed like a nice guy, hope he does well.

Every regional airline is facing a crisis when it comes to staffing. Last year they were able to survive by using every available pilot possible flying the max allowable.

This year will be a different story. You can expect cities to start losing frequency due to regional airlines not being able to staff their company.

That's exactly the way it was planned and happening at Delta. DCI was going to shrink from 600+ to 450 airframes over the term of C2012. I don't know what's going to happen at UAL and AAL, but I suspect those management teams are salivating at the opportunity of using non-performance to break contracts.

There is a former NWA Capt who went to Emirates as a 777 Capt is now at United as a new hire. Evidently the grass is not always greener...or in this case the sand.

Pay raise won't fix it. Too late for that.

Seriously, it's like a reactor core in melt down.

Even if the major partner purchased the regional lift outright, it still doesn't fix the incoming manning problem as it just stems the out flow theoretically.

Ideas?

Bring all the DCI jets to mainline, staple the guys who are flying them onto our list, up the payrates, newhires at Delta start in a DCI jet, every single regional pilot in the U.S will apply to come to Delta, staffing issue solved.

Or go buy every used 319 in the world (I would say 717's and MD 90's as well but we already own almost all of those in the world) and up the utilization to crazy levels.

Either way we are screwed for this summer. Everyone needs to stop putting in GS's and just do GSWC's. We had 7 GS's today in SLC which is a crazy number for a small category in May.
