OC,
I agree with your sentiment, but take exception to your interpretation. Unless we are hiring blind tug drivers, when you flip the beacon switch, you've communicated. My interpretation is basically my comprehension of the memo. I could be wrong, but it is what is stated. No more, no less. I have never understood about the "race to depart" mantra. I get the "on-time" thingy, but that doesn't drive my desire to finish first and get to the end of the runway before anyone else. You tickled me with the statement about hiring blind tug drivers. Unfortunately I think I have seen some.:( Fly safe, OC |

The FOM requires 2 pilot concurrence for MCP changes, but we only point at the altitude. Because when the PM gets a heading and reads it back, the flying pilot puts the heading in the window. PF didn't read it back...tug driver isn't blind. But what do I know. I was always told some of the standard text stuff "approaching inbnd cars" "localizer armed" for example was from the airbus...last month, I'm jumpseating on the baby bus and they said something completely different. I don't even know what it was, but I'd never heard it before. |

We're big boys and girls, and if you've been on an airplane more than a week you realize how the timing works for starting an engine. So now we're going to pee away a pile of gas... those single disconnect towbars are quicker, but sure aren't that much quicker. Plus, it seems like we're adding words where words don't need to be added. beacon on? Why are we announcing that to the tug driver?? |

Scambo, the approaching inbnd crse and loc armed did not come from the bus...all that was ever said was "Loc active" and "GS active," the new and improved came as a result that some people were blowing through the course because the app was not armed...so someone decided a call out was the answer to the problem...lack of awareness.

Soooo, I was flying along with my awesome new Microsoft Tablet this week, getting real time weather updates, schedule info and moving map goodness all on my own company issued device that I can use to bid with, check open time, and submit company reports with convenient 'apps' that are available anytime I need them. Did I mention I can uplink AWABS info and communicate in real time with MX about any technical issues?
Of course I didn't. Because that didn't happen. What did happen is I couldn't access PBS on the lounge computers because Microsoft doesn't work with our PBS software. And the dot matrix printer at the gate broke so it took another fourty minutes to get our flight plan to Paris, where our $6000.00 per seat business pax missed their connections. Good thing Richard didn't use that printer for the 2014 Flight Plan. but when I do, they're flyallnite's posts. |

I agree with your comprehension of the memo, however keep in mind the new litany is not finalized (not been published yet) and won't become effective until somewhere around June 2.

Did I just spend 20 minutes looking for a memo that hasn't been posted yet? |
