ALPA's priorities should be ... (you fill in the blank). Or in other words, what flying position does my Delta experience entitle me to in the Navy, over a current Navy pilot?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ My thoughts exactly

I didn't think ALPA hired pilots.

Rumor (maybe official in some printed material) that SLC will the first hub to eliminate all 50-seat flying. Should be out of the schedule by the end of 2014.

Our scope section defines what is a Delta pilot.

Theoretically we could redefine every DCI pilot who performs Delta flying as a Delta pilot. It is a political decision for ALPA (supporting the decisions reached autonomously by the Delta MEC).

This question of how we facilitate the insertion of opportunities for military pilots into "mainline" has always been a problem for ALPA 's unity. My suggestion is that if we redefine "mainline" flying to include the DCI stuff then military pilots will be equally pleased with a "Delta" job.

It is political. Many ALPA members want a system that enhances a military pilot's career. Those voices are heard and they have to be listened to in order to reach a political consensus that preserves and restores Delta flying to Delta pilots.

I think the opportunity is coming. (and you know how I feel about the MD88 ... if the GTF E Jet or C series were productively configured I think it would be preferred by the hypothetical Navy pilot who started this postulation)

I was hired this year. I 100% agree! I was just responding to his post clarifying that there are people leaving DAL for other airlines.

Bar, I normally agree with a lot of what you write but this is wrong. If he was working for Delta as a pilot he would be on the Delta Pilot Seniority List. S/he may be working for a company owned by Delta but that's not the same thing as working for the parent company.

It's not "another division" it's another company altogether. What company does their employee ID say?

They should both interview for the mainline job.

Bar-
You're going one step too far. Its not a political decision for ALPA. At least not alone.

Management signs the scope clause too. Management is the keeper of the seniority list.

"We" can't define what is a Delta pilot unless they agree.

Something sure seems to be in the works for Skywest/Expressjet. They have "non permitted" types on order for the non union side. Expressjet voted down their TA and has been in limbo since.

Our MEC keeps secrets better than management. I'd say watch order books and crew room Q&A closely.

Absolutely true.

We are not willing to make that deal, yet. But we chipped away at it in Contract 2012.

Something else seems to be in the works now, I've not figured it out.
