This is bit of an exaggeration most likely on their part. The 787 will likely time out around the 45,000 mark. This is according to some engineering friends I graduated college with that work on the 787.

I just googled it and came up with this article:
Boeing Completes 787 Wing Box Structural Test | AVIATION WEEK

So perhaps it can last longer, but I don't think they really know.

I do agree that this is the downside of being in NYC. I fortuntely live in base. I don't want them tinkering with the reserve rules for NYC. I like the fact that I can sit reserve at my house because I am within the report time of one of the three airports.

Looks like ATL & NYC are going to burn through some reserves today. Look at that WX. YUCK!

Yep, my puddles have puddles. It is a total mess here.

But how many folks actually live in base in NYC? I get the impression most of the base is commuters.

The wx is indeed bad today. TWC is showing 100 min LGA delays.

That's why.

OK, OK...I'll take the blame because I live and work in ATL. I told Delta management not to provide transportation to LAX and NYC pilots (I prefer those assets allocated for even more benefits for the ATL pilot group).

I can't believe you were able to figure this out - it was kinda supposed to be a secret.

My guess is about 2/3 of the NYC base commutes. There are a decent amount of people who live in Connecticut or Jersey. (at least on the ER)

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but, I don't care about the folks who choose to live out of base and commute. I agree there should be some type of crew shuttle like the FAs have so the folks who "crash" in Kew Gardens can get around. But I certainly don't want to see the rule of being able to report within any of the three airports to get changed. Doing so would mean that a lot of folks would have to move.

NYC is such a mess; honestly, it is the cesspool of America. Ok, I'm going overboard and trying to be funny. But in all seriousness, the largest city in the US has the worst transportation systems: roads, trains, subways, airports ... you name it.

Carl

Capt. Carl,

Yea, it's good to keep the composites out of the sun...maybe if we only fly them at night...???

Looks like the 400 will be around for awhile so we may get to fly together yet! First round is on me and the rest are on you...:D

I knew it was you Jughead! Hey your first statement is not far off. DALPA's modus operandi has always been the mighty paycheck for the senior guys. Yea, yea, I know it is slowly changing. I can list a dozen things that we should negotiate because other airlines provide them to their pilots (crew meals come to mind).

Let's add MEM as a co-domicile to ATL and see how long it takes for LM and CO. to come up with a LOA...

AA makes their crews only report to LAX for all co-domicile flying...
