May I ask what scope requirements Mesabah's pilot contract contains?

But I got the impression they were doing that based on my assessment that I wouldn't be rested for the flight any earlier than that and NOT based on the 8 hour sleep opportunity specified in FAR 117. I did write an ASR on the situation and never heard anything back from it.

It appears there is some difference in interpretation on some of the rules in play here. (Although with this particular rule, I don't see how it's open to any interpretation as it is very clearly worded.) Anyway, word to the wise, be careful out there. It's one thing to do what you can to help the company out within the context of our contract (which I am more than willing to do in most situations) but it's quite another thing to violate an FAR.

No doubt. Well done. Did you forward a copy of the ASR to your reps and/or CA?

It would be nice if we had a DALPA scheduling expert available on speed dial, 24/7 to ask for direction when these situations develop. It never seems to happen between 9-5, M-F, only after hours, and usually on a weekend!

I agree that would be great, but for the record, they're now available M-F 8-8.

To hear some of my Captains speak, ALPA allowed Delta to merge with Northwest.

It's interesting that if NWA had not been ALPA, the merger may have been way more favorable to Delta than the way it went.

Alan, are you talking about the DALPA scheduling guys, or LEC reps, or both? Can I call the DALPA office after 5pm and get someone to answer?

Very disappointed with the one I had.

Only if you stay on the line. The gouge from the DTW reps seems to be to inform Crew Tracking that you are not fit to extend your FDP, that you will be waiting in the gatehouse for your reroute message and hotel information, and that you'll be happy to take a call from your CP at some later point in time.
