Yes it does state what Jerry said sailingfun, and the 3% increase is for the Atlantic Joint Venture...not Delta Air Lines. I know that you, Richard and special Ed think it's all one entity, but it's not.

Maybe not for this year, but depending on what they do WRT displacements then much of next year's. Then there is the post Colgan reform shredding redefining of block time to the ancient technical definition of taxiing under its own power which will shave 5-10 minutes off every flight in the system. That should be good for a few hundred jobs. Then there's always a potential reflexing up of the AS code share abuse. That can happen anytime AS management decides to play ball. The narrow body gains on the west coast do not belong to us and can go away in an instant. There's also a few "productivity improvements" that will likely sneak their way into C2015 here or there. Plus "slower Atlantic growth than planned".

They just sent a huge signal to th rest of the industry. You grow beyond what can support record breaking yields and we will shrink to pull everyone up to record breaking yields. IOW, feel free to capacity dump and we will accommodate you by preserving everyone's margins and letting you take as much revenue and marketshare as you want.

I'm not that clued in, but let me know if I'm getting this situation:

Losing 4 744's is going to cost us a lot of the highest paying jobs.

If the company has plans to replace them with something similar (ie. 777's), that would mitigate the jobs loss - but we are not getting any indications of that (at least in the short run).

To the contrary, the message from the company seems to be they will work with DALPA to address the circumstance. That sounds like a solution that does not involve more heavy airplanes (at least in the short run).

The most troubling is Delta's ability to continue their schedule with a greater reliance on our JV partners for the Atlantic flying. More work for their pilots, less for ours.

We have either giving the company the ability to do that (which we should un-give in the next contract). Or the company is in violation of the current contract and should be induced to comply.

Is that it or is there more to it?

This is exactly right yet again. Furthermore, if we were represented by a union, now would be the perfect time to respond with this as exactly our proposed remedy on April 1, 2015.

In fact, given this latest widening of the imbalance during the cure period, I would strongly consider filing for a court injunction to stop the further widening of the imbalance during the cure period. It really represents irreparable harm between now and April 1, 2015...exactly what injunctive relief is there for. But since Delta is a non-union airline...

But.... the way you describe it is very DC-ish. It is an increase, I do not care whether or not it is not as much of an increase as originally planned. Kind of like that whole "I'm gonna take up smoking and then quit. Aren't you proud of me?" kind of discussion. An increase is an increase. Period, and we should not be happy at all about it.
Just don't complain or even respond though. Right tsquare?

You bet. Surrender early. Avoid the rush.

Almost right. In your case t, "negotiations" simply mean laying down.

OK... tell me how you would get what it is that we need with a (for certain) adversarial relationship, because your statement says to me that you are absolutely in the anti-engagement camp. Just show me the way to get me more money and more time off, get the violations solved in a timely manner, (because waiting for several years to have them resolved is a big fat fail in my book). and I will get right on that train with ya.
We are out of balance in our relationship. We, DALPA, are the P-Whipped boyfriend trying to do everything we can to be with this hot woman (Mngmt). This Woman knows this and will take advantage of the situation. She will give us a little sugar to keep us begging, but ultimately she runs the show and little by little she dismantles us.

My solution to DALPA would be to start getting TOUGH. Dont be lenient and stop pretending to be management. We are a labor union, not chairmen of the board. There needs to be a nice thick line between labor and management or else sides will be taken advantage of. In management courses, this is the first lesson you are taught. DO NOT CO-MINGLE WITH THE HELP. We are the help and we are falling for this false relationship.

On a side note, I actually thought the SD letter was optimistic. We just need to be a little stronger and replace those 400s with higher paying jobs.

Respectfully.

Carl, he stated that we would be pulling flights off the Atlantic and those flights would be replaced with joint venture flights. It does not say that in any way shape or form. It states the planned INCREASE IN FLYING is being reduced to 3% growth overall for the joint venture. It does not state what the breakdown will be between the partner airlines. We could be doing all of it or none of it but they are not reducing capacity and replacing it with AF/KLM. In fact we just announced another Atlantic flight SLC-AMS.
