TPA is a satellite FA base, so we get free parking there, too.

Well there was this divert but it was a while back.

Major windshield crack forces Delta B747 from Honolulu to Osaka to land on remote Pacific island ...

Do you know why DAL don't like 747's?..........................Takes to long to beat them into 1011's......

Who is saying we're eliminating a fleet type? Is there anything official about parking more than 4 of the 747's?

Nothing official however if your on the aircraft I am sure you have received some of the same info I have. In the end it makes no sense to keep 12 airframes. I suspect you will see 4 more gone next year and all parked in 36 months. Not going to be pleasant for the top 2000 on the list. The only saving grace is the widebody international hours are projected to continue to increase.

I'm not saying it is or isn't our maintenance, but the failed part was certainly mechanical in nature. NWA had and DAL has very good maintenance people but things can get overlooked. They are only human.

The second recent divert was a combination (it's never just one thing) of mechanical failure combined with a fueler mistake that caused the divert.

Both situations will be handled accordingly and I feel properly.

Fly safe,

OC
