BUT... I'm only 3 feet off the ground and only going 70mph, oh and I can pull over at any exit/rest area and grab another Red Bull! :D |
I was able to download via EasyBid a few minutes ago.

Sounds like west coast 717 base is off the table for now. Does west coast ever get any love? With the doubling down against ALK seems like there should have been more openings but it never seems to materialize. Input/comments?
In related news, Alaska has added seats and is maintaining good load factor. Also adding more planes to fleet, part to replace the -400's but also for growth. Alaska Airlines purchases 10 Boeing 737-900er aircraft - DailyHerald.com |

PD,
I totally agree that Alan needs to take a few steps back out of the trees so he can see the forest. But I've gotta disagree with you in terms of my personal experience with FAR 117. From my perspective as an 88 guy, 117 is a huge improvement. The minimum 10 hour rest, requiring an opportunity for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, fixes the biggest source of fatigue that I used to experience under the old regs. I understand there are problems in other categories. But, FWIW, from my perspective in the 88 category, I think it's overall a huge improvement. What was the min scheduled "rest" at Delta prior to 117? Could you be reduced to 8:00? |
Min scheduled rest was 9 hours contractually (and it sucked). That could be reduced to 8 due to IROPS, and that really sucked!
The min 10 hours behind the door (and never reducible) is a vast and by far the best improvement of 117. I acknowledge that some of the "improvements" are hardly that, but this particular feature is great. |

Holy cow! Aside from your thoughts on Alan, to which I'm indifferent, I agree with your entire post. My last company had a nine hour scheduled minimum rule but the company before that scheduled reduced rest. Twenty minutes after a flight, thirty minutes report report for a flight the next day and eight hours "rest" meant 8:55 scheduled between flights and you could fly a regular day. In that time you had to find some time to sleep between two van rides, putting the airplane to bed, preparing for the morning flight, shaving, showering, etc. Three, four, five flights...have fun! 117 is such a marked improvement it's not debatable.

I've been using the stand alone NavTech application for a long time. Works good if you have a PC laptop or a Mac Laptop that runs some version of Windows.
FWIW, back in the day at NWA, there were multiple bidding programs that worked with the Navtech, and later Carmen (some of which incorporated JS booking...really cool!). I'm not quite sure why we can't have the same competitive marketplace of ideas here. Nu |

It was 9 hours and we were entitled to 8 hours "behind the door" which would yield maybe 7 hours of sleep absolute best case. Better than most regionals but still not nearly as good as the current requirement to have the opportunity for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
