It's sometimes hard to tell a trend vs. a junior lineholder who just always gets crap trips. I see a lot of BAD trips (redeyes with 24 hour layos and 0700 east coast take off, so 0430 Roosv departure, thus 0345 wakeup, thus 0045 wakeup for a west coast guy...) come into open time. And very often it's the same 4 or 5 Capts with them, some of the bottom 10 lineholders.

When I see that, I suspect it's just the crappy trip...but having not flown with 2 or 3 or them, I'm not totally sure. However, when I see a GOOD trip drop into open time on IcrewMax, I always click to see who's on it, and you can be 95% sure it's one of 2 guys or an LCP. I always get a chuckle when it happens 1 day prior... there are certain trips the FO probably KNEW no one would possibly pick up, and as it got closer and closer the acid indigestion and nausea just gets worse and worse, mental anguish building, expected mental pain grinding your stomach into knots, until it actually made the FO physically sick. It would appear. Hey, psychosomatic sickness and the placebo affect are well documented, I can totally see it!

I should build an app that captures open time and builds a database with % of time various guys show up in open time. Then cross ref with trips that show up in open time, try to regress the bad trip causality out leaving behind distilled Avoidance.

Since we're joking about the subject, here's a real question--sometimes a trip will show up in the B open time, and when you click on it to see who's flying it, it has a blank A spot, but still actually shows an FO assigned against it. Now, that's normal if it's a Q "qualified" drop showing up in open time, but these are NOT Q trips, just normal ones with no Q showing.

I'm thinking that if a trip can be dropped due to sufficient reserve coverage, the FO's name should not be assigned against it when it hits open time--my name never shows up when I drop a trip and see it in open time. So what are these non-Q trips I see in OT with an FO still listed? Anyone else notice these, usually about 5% of trips?

Yikes! My trips in CVG were always in A open time.

I was hoping it was because I was plug +1 and flying horrible trips but now you guys are giving me a complex.

Wow silver platter PD!

NWA actually hired the inventor of the rollaboard.
I believe he retired from NWA 747 Captain to spend more time with his startup company Travelpro...

Cheers

I still have my Purdy Neat bag. It's on the way out but it's been a good one!

Long before Purdy Neat, there was Travel Pro. But their bags were made of plastic and only lasted a couple years. I heard Purdy Neat was started by a UAL pilot as a hard core, indestructible pilot bag, with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE!

I bought my first one in Sept. 1996, as a replacement for my busted up second Travel Pro, and I'm still using it today. ;)

Just a guess, but possibly a trip the guy had posted on the swap board and as a swap with the pot and he got the swap w the pot, but the system didn't remove him fast enough. I've seen trips I put on the swap board stay there for some amount of time after receiving a swap w pot.

Flew with the originator of Travel Pro, think it was in 88, phl to lgw. He owned a factory in Korea and was going to manufacture them there. Another 2 NWA pilots were producing a rollaboard prior to travel pro.
