Nope! Usually I do care, but I finally got enough seniority to hold vacation over Christmas week. Now I'm going to dream we are still getting C2K rates, and I can actually afford all the crap my wife wants to buy.

Well. That was a let down. Really thought I was going to swap a 22-25th trip to a 21-24th trip as the 21st is way more understaffed than the 25th. I was wrong. Capped reserve days. Oh well. Working Christmas for a 9th straight year, 7th here on a really junior piece of equipment. Sucks.

If you live in base swap for a trip that gets back on the 24th, and one that leaves late on the 25th. Then you can work the swap system better.

Anyone else figure the HSA puts the current balance from the HRA out of reach as "post deductible" ? Meaning, you aren't likely to be able to use it unless you max out the family deductible.

Sticking with the HRA you can still use reward dollars from dollar 1.

Everyone tells me the HSA is a better deal, but the single family deductible and "post deductible" treatment of your carry over makes the plan effectively $2,800 more ($200 premium + $2,600 I'd have to fund).

What am I missing?
I don't know that stuff makes my head spin.

What are the best 1 or 2 plans for not having to risk huge out of network bills?

I finish in December and was given 17 days of reserve, most of which overlap my OE. Assuming 2/3 of the month was OE and 1/3 is not, would it be a correct statement that all my reserve during OE will be dropped and I'll have to sit whatever reserve doesn't overlap? In addition, for pay purposes I'll get a prorated 2/3 basic pilot salary + 1/3 reserve guarantee?

Once the all the minions are here then go with a high deductible HSA. We have 4 kids and my wife hauls them to the Doctor all the dang time. She never tries to limit our healthcare expenses. So far the last 4 years we would have been better off with the Silver HSA. I'm switching there this year and am just going to throw my PS check and the difference in premiums into my HSA account. Should be cheaper unless we have a disaster.
I think in your situation, the DPMP is the best choice. Just an opinion.

Short term this appears to be some growth potential. However there is plenty of time between now and when they actually start showing up in significant numbers to make it a staffing neutral or negative refleeting decision. The trend is pull down direct destinations and shuttle to JV hubs. While all eyes are on the Whale, I'd be more concerned with the long term plans for the ER. If we keep moving towards JV hub feed, we can fly a lot more people with a lot fewer pilots by using bigger planes.

That sounds about right.

That's how it works, pretty much. As soon as your OE is finished and you get the OK (or whatever it was) on your schedule, you'll be on reserve. As for pay, there will be a gap between the salary and the reserve pay, so expect a paycheck in the $100-$500 range. It will catch up the next month.
