I get why commuters want them, but watch trip coverage on the 320. More than half of them go to junior guys who live in base and don't want them, or reserves.

That has been my experience as well...

As a former North guy, I want to apologize to you South guys for bringing the 5 five day domestic trips over with us. I never cared for them even when I did commute. If this was really about syncing the fleets they could just stop creating them on the 320, and that would be the end of it. I don't think it is really about who wants them and who doesn't, its all about reducing credit time caused by the 5:15 ADG. Unintended consequences and all...

+320.

I have never liked 5 day trips and for a while they were 50% of the bid pack. I would send emails every month and the response was always the same. 5 day trips reduce credit time

This.

If they are going to have 5 day trips, then fine, but they should pack in some serious credit. Like 30+ hours worth, every single time. Instead we see lots of 24-25ish hour 5 days, which is bogus because with as much flying as we do we should easily be able to pack that into a 4 day and still have a 2 flights prior on day one and one chance home on day 5 for commuters, or even "locals" for that matter that drive in on 2-3+ hour commutes.

While credit and ADG is definitely a part of that, the real fulcrum is marketing juggling a million fleet types because every plane we have, even planes of almost the exact same size, all have to fly into every city every day. So everyone is changing planes every leg doing a million legs a day and we still struggle to find 5 hours a day of work for our pilots, all the while some complain about how we need to be more productive

It's not your fault... No, it's not your fault.

It's not your fault, Will.

I think the ADG is the driver. I don't have much use for 5-days personally, and I especially hate them as a Reserve. That being said, I think some people could benefit, and it's OK with me if they're a small proportion of the bid packet. That's the key: there should be enough VARIETY to please everyone. It's when they start designing trips for everyone, based on the lobbying of a few, that things go wrong.

My fear is that they will use 5-day trips as a reason to increase the minimum on-call days on the 88, and THAT is going to wreck QOL for a lot of people.

^^^^^

Make them commutable for those who like them and don't make 50% of the trips 5-days. Variety is good. I might need a good long 5-day if the mother-in-law decides to come spend the week. :)

Interesting fun fact.

The upgrade times at Delta are less than the upgrade times at SkyWest.

Junior Delta Captain July 2007.
Junior SkyWest Captain June 2007.
Junior ExpressJet Captain Jan 2007.
