I would check your schedule when you finish OE. They generally have short calls assigned by 3 pm, and you can look at the reserve availability list to see if other short calls have been assigned. I have Personal Dropped a day after a single reserve day in order to not get short call and I have never gotten short call in that circumstance. You could however be given a trip on long call, which does not require a noon release. The noon release only applies to short call.

Edit: after I typed this I realized there have been numerous replies so I guess I'm beating a dead horse!

I'm just glad they are finally sharing the love so other categories will get to "enjoy" domestic 5-days.

In my catagory, DTW7ERB, after 117, the 5 day trips are most likely to be commutable. I'm a commuter and my favorite trips are high time, commutable, 3 day trips (other than the occasional Europe trip they don't exist anymore). 4 day commutable trips are my second preference and they've pretty much disappeared since 117. The 5 day trips are mostly commutable...I hate the true 5 day trips but I can tolerate the trips that end in a red eye with a 25-30 hour layover in SFO or LAS before the last leg. It's only 4 days of flying.

Yes it would. I don't think the domestic 5-days get much over 31 hours though. The commutable ones are usually worth 26-28 hours. The uncommutable ones get to 30 sometimes. I got re-routed once and it turned into a 6 day that paid 33.

I just think they are too long. Everyone used to say a 4-day is twice as long as a 3-day. Well, for me a 5-day is 10 times as long as a 4-day. And if you aren't careful 117 rules will stack them back to back on ya. :o

5 days, 18+ legs into/out of ATL or LGA on the Mad dog.

I'm not so sure people demand them. If they do, it must be on par with the crowd demanding CDOs (split-duty). I want a happy family. Gone for a full 15 days a month is not conducive to a happy wife. Those occasional am's and pm's home go a long way.

This could have an undesired response the company is not anticipating with more training. I would consider changing equipment if needed to avoid these trips for the necessary seniority (downbid). If still unable to avoid 5 days, bid up for pay because QOL sucks either way.
