I was wondering the same thing and I'm sure someones alternative will be "raise ticket prices!" But if prices go up demand goes down and we don't need as many people. If prices don't go up then we end up costing too much and we either get cut again or farmed out. Seems like it eventually gets us back to square uno.

But that doesn't take into account the effect on the regionals, especially those that thrive on max duty day flying. If their costs increase substantially then it could make them so inefficient that flying is shifted back to mainline and thus a win for mainline pilots and RJ pilots with a mainline goal. Then again...

I'm getting reserve on the ER in NYC, here's what my bid for November was:
I ended up with four blocks of days on, with 4 of my 6 prefer off blocks honored,
including Thanksgiving. I'm not that senior - 15 from the bottom or so.

I use the Pattern bid to avoid getting a large chunk of work days in a row.

I'd like to see credit for short call.

Roger that! And RAW score credit too. Of course I am on my second week in Ny with no call outs. I haven't piloted a heavier than air vehicle since 13 Oct. I have re-current the day after I go non current. How convenient...:cool:

Here's a tip I've found useful-
An excellent way to learn how to bid is to look at the results from last month.
You can see exactly how every pilot bid and what they got as a result.

I would agree with the previous post about simplicity. The simpler bids tend to do well. Study the resaons reports and the wide reports. You'll be amazed how many guys screw themselves with complex bids.

add to that the upcoming attrition and you've got a lot of hiring in the next few years.

What are you doing the 30th? If you are on duty, PBS will look back to ensure the 4 day requirement is met.

As for the last four days, you can be on call 1, 2, 3, etc on call. Again, the program will look back to the previous month when awarding your next months schedule (this is something that you want to keep in mind when bidding for a given month....if you need one of the first days off during a month, make sure that you are not on reserve for one day at the end of the previous month).

You can bid just a couple of days or you can prefer off 31 days. It really depends on what is important to you. Not sure what category you are in because the requirements are different (regarding min days on and max X day blocks). Keep in mind that the prefer off days have a left to right priority and the way reserve bids are awarded are often misunderstood. It will work left to right and try to give you the most satisfaction. I don't have time right now, but will give a better explanation as to how the reserve bids are processed (if you want).
