OK, splash. Time for a credibility check. What percentage of the dues we pay, and send to ALPA national, actually make it back to be used by the Delta pilot group?
There appears to be a fair amount of 717 flying out of LAX this summer. LAS, PDX, SFO all have several flights per day. I'm not seeing any flights to these airports from anywhere else on the 717. ... in other words, how do they plan to get the AC and crews there from the current bases unless they are either A. deadheading or B. Opening a new category...
It might take quite a bit of flying out west before a base could be justified.

What's the status of the LAX-PVG flight?
Compass ran a sizeable operation out of LAX for a year before a crew base opened. Very similar scenario. The airplanes came from MSP/DTW and went out west in a similar manner to the stuff that is loaded for the 717 so far.

After reading all I can on DeltaNet, still clear as mud?

I'm sure they did, but in four months, there will be at least 16 717 departures per day from LAX. The one airplane and crew arriving in the evening after a 5 leg day won't be able to cover that. I'm not sure if Compass had a TDY arrangement or used outstation basing, but we have provisions for neither here at Delta. If this is the schedule they intend to fly, they'll need to DH in crews and preposition aircraft to do it. Not unlike what they did in NY while they got that spooled up. The difference now is that there are already a lot of people qualified on the aircraft, who might well bid it. They could have it up and running very rapidly and I think they know it. I'd be looking for this on the next bid.
LAX or SEA could very well become a pilot base in time, but I don't think 16 departures a day is enough to justify it. If it sticks, and increases over time, then fo sho.
Nope, there was no TDY and no base, with over a dozen departures a day and that went on for quite a while.

Are 10 of the 16 LAX-SFO?
At compass we had
day 1.. Between 3-4 legs to get to LAX
day 2 and 3 ...LAX shuttle 5 legs a day
day 4 work your way back to DTW.
It was worth 28 hour 4 day
So if you have 2 jets at different times leave DTW it can be done
LAS and PDX have 4 and 3 per day, respectively, and could be done with 1 plane each, but would need 2 crews per day each due to max duty day. So that's 4 jets per day and 8 crews per day to operate, roughly.
For the same time period they only have the one 717 flight inbound to LAX from LAS via SLC and points east. None into PDX or SFO. So there's 7 more crews to pre-position each day. Unless they add more flights to one of the spoke cities, the only way to do that is deadhead from DTW, ATL or NYC, and that's the better part of a day, so figure two days DH on a 5 day rotation to the west coast... like I said, good deal for commuters!
