I know not there plan, but, given the training capacity on the 717 and the time frame for these west coast trips to start it certainly looks like they feel they have the capacity with dtw pilots to perform this flying.

Don't forget they can run five day trips. With a thirty hour layover in the middle there is a lot they can do to cover trips.

What the west coast guys should hope for is this is wildly successful venture out there and that they open a base and expand flying. But I believe they had said three bases only with 88 aircraft, but maybe they'll change their mind.

Here's to hoping for more west coast flying though. In the 717 LCA ranks it certainly seemed that there would be a west coast base and instead it was NYC. Idk why west coast stuff happens so slowly.

But my question is why not an airbus base in lax?

Quick question, do personal drops get granted before white slips.

Thanks,

I guess the reason I posted this was that CR has said repeatedly that there are no plans for a west coast 717 base. Time and time again, marketing shows up and pours a bottle of ink all over their carefully crafted plans. I think this is one of those times. It will be interesting to see how they accomplish this flying, and if it portends further 717 flying on the west coast. As to the latter, I think it does. The former... is up to CR. They'll need to decide how to get it done and right now, with only one flight that even touches the whole LAX 717 operation, the only way is by deadheading crews into the system. Considering the only bases are 3 time zones away, that's not a very economical solution. All we can do now is sit back and watch it unfold...

Airbus base in SLC is growing, and covers a lot of the west coast flying.

LAX is in the same position. All the folks in LA either commute by air from nearby, or they have been living in SoCal for decades. You will see, in the near future, LAX becoming a mix of super senior and super junior. Why? Because if you haven't established roots here long ago, you can't afford to move here now. If the 717 opens in LA, this will expedite this scenario.

So recently, I was flying with a super senior Capt who owns a bad arse beach house. Now I don't expect to have a beach house but I'd love to stop commuting and buy a decent house in a decent neighborhood within an hour and 1/2 drive of LAX. Can I do that? No f'in way. I grew up in SoCal but haven't lived there for 20 years. I was hired in '07 and have not been able to bid LAX until this summer. I would like to be able move back but on 8 year pay, no way.

For our next contract, profit sharing should be off the bargaining table (as in "Don't touch it"). I want a raise that will allow me and my family to live ANY of the domiciles that Delta has selected to base pilots. Its called a domicile for a reason, you are supposed to LIVE there. For those that say "Commuting is a choice," I call bull$hit. I can't afford to not to commute and please don't tell me to move to ATL.

My wife would love to live in Manhattan. I'd move there too, to make her happy, but can we move to NYC? No.

The pilot groups at all the majors have been beat down so much over the last decade and a half that they just shrug their shoulders and say, "Well I guess this is going to be the best we can do." (AA contract for example).

I want at least a 20% raise out the gate (you may want more and I'm on board with that too), the company can afford it. I want to live in MY DOMICILE and the company need to pay me so I can afford to live in THEIR DOMICILE.

Rant over,

Humboldt
Good post in that it illustrates how wildly unaffordable some cities have become.

If you're lucky enough to have a wicked cool beach house that you bought in 1964 or a rent controlled apartment in Manhattan that your great aunt left you, you are in great shape.

Otherwise, not so much. My guess is the UAL guys based in SFO face the same issue.

Cheer for the cheerleaders and some ridiculous call by the ref so we can complain for no reason

My two most unfavorite teams. Both teams have one Alabama player so it's a wash. My wife thinks Brady is cute, so I guess I'll root for the Sea Slugs. Damn, Katy Perry has big....
