if they was really shrewd they would advertise gum or something on the belly.
A) Timbo had the same problem.
So there. End of story. Period. Timbo. If Timbo can't do it, AF1 can't either.
But also I should point out:
B) If I remember right it was very hazy, and
C) Although the likelihood of small arms fire in Cleveland that requires evasive maneuvers is high, we all make mista... are sometimes in positions where physics and our intentions... coupled with ATCs mistakes... cannot be reconciled in a smooth fashion.
Just make sure that when the main gear doors open you don't end up with something like this:
And especially this
We really don't need that.

To give TWA a small break, the weather sucked that day, moderate to severe turb. below 10,000. I landed at JFK, wind was 290/35G53. I just had the F/O call out relative airspeed, as you could not read it. 155 bug, made the first turn off. Uphill both ways, lions, tigers......
That brings back a great memory FTB. I was going in to CLE that day and we were told by ATC if we hurried we might be able to make it in before the VIP arrival. We did our best but ATC finally pulled the plug and held us at the outer marker at 6000 feet. We heard the same exchange between AF1 and ATC and enjoyed a good laugh as we watched the big bird crank around in a big circle just below us. I cannot believe that was 11 years ago!
I was over on that Coex D terminal with my back turned to the whole thing. I couldn't see it with my own eyes but I could hear the exchange and I remember thinking did that just really happen? I remember looking to the left and seeing all the other E145s like us just sitting there mid push.

Emirates has been painting its name on the belly for a while. Not too excited we are copying them.
