I saw an -88 captain rip the van driver a new one because the AC was broke (layover was in MSP and it was like 50F out...). My captain stayed behind and smoothed things over, but it was really quite embarrassing.

This and the fact that Doug Parker was on Mad Money last night and said that the airlines are starting to add capacity to the system. Investors don't want to hear that.

Damn straight! Those that realize this are the good ones and are fun to fly with. Those that don't realize this commit the faux pas mentioned earlier and get offended when someone suggests that airline pilots are nothing more than glorified bus drivers (complete with that hat!). It's a good, easy job, folks. Why make it harder than it has to be? Among other things, I have started a business. Hardest thing I have ever done. Incomparably harder than any aviation training I have ever been through. If you think I am crazy, I submit that you should be VERY thankful you have the pilot gig going for you.

I would say 95%+ couldn't replace their Delta income. It takes time to build back up to $300K a year, a decade or more. I don't doubt that most would make it back to 6 figures, but due to the lost time value of money, they would be way behind on their Delta career earnings. Also, due to Obamacare, starting a business is infinitely more difficult than it was a few years ago. Most would have to make a leap of faith investment, and hope for the best.

What are doing? You are new. You need self reflection. It is obviously your fault. Every seasoned airline pilot could make the same money in corporate America. They are all incredibly professional, smart, and natural born leaders.

In all seriousness, good to know I am not the only one who has witnessed this stuff.

Duece, don't sweat it, you will learn over time that there are only about 10 or so guys on this thread that are allowed to have an opinion on anything...

Yeah, there's a few of those guys out there but I consider them the 5%'ers. At Delta, I'll bet it's less the 5%. Generally fantastic people.

And I've actually grown to enjoy flying with that 9/11 truther. Yes, he's probably nuts, but he is a nice guy and actually kind of interesting to listen to.

Duece,
Everyone has at least one or two captains on a no-bid list, but to say that 25% that you have flown with are problematic was probably a bit of an exaggeration that went a little too far.
With a little seniority, you too will become a captain and have the honor of FO's bidding to avoid you for whatever reason.
By and large though, most just want to follow the rules and retain the customers, because the problems we have now, discussing how much and what improvements to a contract we expect is far superior to just a short decade ago when we were talking about what pay and QOL needs to be turned in.
