I thought everyone was just giving us a hard time with the "guard nazi" stuff. Until I rode a 717 jumpseat last week. Not that the 717 catagory is any different, I just haven't witnessed it before, except for the 100 times I've called ramp in ATL on guard and been immediately informed I'm on guard. The FO on the flight I was JSing on, taxiing out of ORD informed 2 guys before takeoff and one airborne that they were on guard, I wasn't monitoring comm2 but judging by his self-satisfaction, he was very prompt. Now I finally get it. We ARE guard Nazi's.

I haven't come across FTB yet, but I've been flashing the shocker....it's only a matter of time.

Not sure if you're being lighthearted here, but you are willing to pass judgement on our entire group because of one FO?

Alright you travel gurus help me out. I thought if you are non reving, out of uniform , you have to have a non rev ticket to go through security. If you are jumpseating and you are out of uniform all you need is a ID correct? You don't need a ticket correct?

I went through Syracuse New York and they wouldn't let me go through security without a pass. I told them I am jumpseating and I cannot check in for non reving and jump seat at the same time. I had my ID with me.

I did not win. They sent me back to ticketing. Ticketing said it's too late I'll put you on the next flight to go through security and then run to the gate for the earlier flight and see if you can get on. It was a cluster buck.

That is actually airport specific. Ive run into this as well. Little Ole EUG in Oregon has the same policy and even though it's not TSA policy, each airport can make more restrictive rules.
First time Js'g from there nearly missed flight as TSA enforced city rule, then I went to desk, but flight checked in, the one person working that flight left to help load. I had to go to UAL and JS list for that flight to get through security and then went to the correct flight to JS on the flight I wanted.

When I wrote to the security person, he at first told me that wasn't their policy, then later said it was and that he would bring it up to the airport board.
After about a month I got an email back from the security guy for the airport saying that the board considered changing to conform with TSA requirements, but thought it was just more conservative to stay with their requirement.
I replied that thank god EUG does not run the rest of the nations airports.

If Syracuse ever gets KCM, then you'll be home free, otherwise plan on playing by the city's song and dance rules to get through TSA.

Was this an employee line or regular security? I've always been able to get through a employee line with just a ID.

Windows 10 comes out in 3 days.

Does anybody know if our Surface tablets are going to be included?
I think Windows 10 is replacing Windows NT for most devices.

I understand Microsoft is releasing 10 as an Automatic Update for anybody running 8.1 but optional for NT.

Are we supposed to accept the update?

Can't you also be put on the STBY list for FC although the chances are slim

Yes, when checkin you can upgrade to EC and list yourself to standby for first. I usually glance at the upgrade list. Even though we go ahead of non revs for first it's not unusual to see 30 FF upgrades listed. In that case I don't bother. I can board for the EC seat early and get my bags stowed.
If the flight is a tourist market like JFK-STT a upgrade to first is possible and I would certainly list for it. If its a business market your better off buying lottery tickets then trying for a upgrade. You can use your lottery winnings to buy a first class seat.

Not until we are told to by the company. I'd be very surprised if we get an update request for this through the normal update process. For my personal laptop, I had to request the upgrade to Windows 10. I've seen no such request on the Surface.

Thanks guys. It was a pre- check line. I was with two crews . After I came back with my ticket they made me go through the whole long regular line. And I never made one sour gesture always smiled and just ask questions. Don't know why I was punished.

My understanding is that whenever you are in civvies, you are always potentially subject to the whole security process. I don't even try to commute in civilian clothes. I generally wear a light jacket over my uniform, but am in uniform. At the end of a trip, for comfort, I might change into civvies, if I have time.

I don't know that you were punished. You were not in uniform, which can lead to the security process.
