Yup...I need to see a change before I get involved again, but if too many of us have my attitude there will be no change. The circle of apathy and disappointment wins in this case. 25 years of ALPA malfeasance has taken all the love out of me. I now direct it elsewhere. Anyone need a hug?;)

It's not necessarily laziness. ALPA national is a self-serving bureaucracy intent only on it's own continuance. I don't understand why anyone opens their emails, much less listens to anything they have to say on any subject. And yes, I do understand the dangers of the ME3, so I wrote my own letters to the WH and my Congressfolk. My experience has been that if you are counting on National you are fated to be disappointed. But, to each his own.

Hey, if you wrote your own letters, that's great. Thanks for doing that. For the rest of us, the call to action link is almost ridiculously easy and quick to use. I believe it can make a difference.

I have two relatives who lobby in DC. That's pretty much all that town is now, and you wouldn't believe the two things they lobby for. As in: They have lobbyists?? We absolutely HAVE to be there. I don't care if it's ALPA, DPA, or Billy Bob's airline pilots and bait shop... all I care about is having a voice. Right now that's ALPA. Well, thanks again for writing the letters. Last I saw the union has had a large upheaval, maybe more change to come but I'm pretty sure continually referring it to alpo isn't going to endear you to anyone but your Twitter followers.

Never feel bad about not flying on reserve. They ain't paying me to fly. They are paying me to answer the phone and come to work if they need me. They never felt bad about calling me at midnight with a noon report the next day after I drove 5.5 hours home. Nor did they feel bad about me sitting in Buffalo hotel on Thanksgiving eating BLT for lunch at cafe. Feel good about being home and irritating your teenage daughter.

Care to share the changes made at ALPA national? Haven't seen it.

Well, I'm far from involved myself other than a vote, just like everyone else, but I'd hope with a new crop of leadership at DALPA that a new way of thinking may filter on up to National.

I just think repeatedly referring to it as ALPO does not help, and at the present it's the best alternative we have available to have any collective voice.

Do you think the teamsters wants to speak for airline pilots? Do you just want to pull out of the conversation altogether?

Bottom line, US has the best government that money can buy, and money and lobbying is the only thing that even comes close to capturing our governments attention. If you have some specific reform you'd like to see, please post, and I'd more than likely get onboard as well.

It's not personal, but in the end it's all business and what becomes of the profession over the next decade.
