I've usually seen in done by noon base time. BUT, Scheds can and do adjust the next days manning profile as weather develops, people time out, call in sick, etc. On Long Call they can call you at any time to convert you to SC with a 10 hour notice.

Does anyone have any hotel info on staying around the lax airport area. Where do we get good hotel discounts, pricing info. Where do you stay commuting In or short calls. Thnx

Tax question, if I live in MN but fly out of NY, do I have to pay state tax in MN, NY, both or neither?

If you spend more than half the year in MN, vote, license vehicle etc then MN state tax would apply. Some states may have laws pertaining to working there as a commuter. I would check with a good tax guy on that.

MN really took some guys to the woodshed over this back in the early 90's.

You pay taxes based on where you live. If you're a new hire, if I remember correctly, they tax you in GA while you're in training, then your home state after training. I seem to remember having to do state taxes in IL and GA one year.

this is correct. If you don't live in GA just file as a non resident and get the taxes you paid back.

We need to tighten up the window between when bidding closes and the bids are awarded and published.

I think 24 hours for Captains and then 48 hours after bid closes for FO's is fair.

Be careful HTBH, Scoop doesn't quote all of the requirements for PS off rotation deadhead in Section 8.E.8

So in your situation, yes, a backup is required because the original rotation had a backup, that is, a subsequent flight. See 8.E.8.e:

"e. the routing provides for a subsequent flight that is scheduled to arrive at a reasonable time before his required report under Section 8 E. 5. if the pilot’s originally scheduled routing provided for such a subsequent flight."

If you do as Scoop suggests then you fall under 8.E.8.e Note two:

"Note two: A pilot who utilizes an off-rotation deadhead at the beginning of a rotation that does not satisfy the requirements of Section 8 E. 8. will be responsible for his transportation."

That means if you do as Scoop suggests and take the last possible flight then you are not entitled to PS and you are on your own. You will have no leg to stand on if you don't show up one hour before your working flight. But hey, maybe grandma is driving you to the airport or something like that. I hope so.

Anyway, because in your original premise you have five flights... you could do as you propose and move to your DH to the fourth of five flights as long as you can successfully book PS within 14 days for that fourth of five flights and the subsequent (backup) fifth flight arrives at a reasonable time before the one hour report of your working leg.

That's how I see it anyway. Be careful out there.

BTW, if you deviate from DH your hotel is still provided for, but your transportation to the hotel may not be. Ground transportation to and from your hotel is NOT deadheading by definition.

For example, if your transportation is by pre paid contracted limo you will probably have to pay for your own cab or uber to the hotel. Crew accommodations might be able to switch your prepaid ride to a later time or pay for another limo ride just for you, but I don't think they have to. Anybody have any experiences with this to share? I'd like to know also.

Nothing official but I had a gs that was deadhead to dca, overnight at iad amd flt one leg back. They only gave me 40 min to show for dca, drive took 2.45. I just got on iad js and uberEd to hotel. Didn't even ask.
