Sunglasses / Airbus question: I'm on the 319/320 and a guy I flew with said his polarized shades won't work with the new screens on the 321 (or 330 for that matter) and that he has to go out and get non-polarized shades.

I haven't flown a 321 yet but wondering if anyone out there could verify what he said.

Don't be cheap. Buy a test drive at the Porsche track. Take the wife and kids to lunch. There's a great deck where they can watch planes and you. A café is adjacent with bar service.

If you are cheap, bring a loaded gun, a cooler, lounge chairs and sit in the parking lot across the street from the Porsche facility. Target practice, airplanes and beer. The all American experience.

You've just managed to separate the int'l guys from the domesticados.

Driving south from downtown ATL yesterday so the family and I stopped at the Convention Center and found an empty parking lot to watch for a little while. Jets were taking-off to the west so departures were overhead. Not a bad show but the planes were reasonably high by the time they went over the CC and lots of trees to navigate away from for a decent view.

Haven't seen arrivals from that spot and also haven't tried the cell phone lot yet. I think the ideal viewing location would be around the perimeter of the airport on the arrival or departure (east & west) ends but I don't think there's a place off of those roads to pullover and stop to watch. That said, I might try the parking lot at the Porsche test track underneath short final for 26R but some German engineers might chase us off for parking our Honda Odyssey on their premises.

There's a dairy queen on Roosevelt highway.

It's underneath departures on 9s and or underneath the landings on 27s. You have a good show since that's where the heavies congregate.

And you can get a mini blizzard. And you have a bathroom. Oh and a major train track right in front of you that runs a lot of large freight trains throughout the day abd unobstructed view of the track left and right. I swear I hear them almost every other time im in the employee parking lot.

Kids would love it... almost half as much as their dads.

Polarized glasses don't work too well IMO for any of the Air bus fleet. I've been using prescription non polarized Sarengetti and they have been the best so far. No problems seeing inside or through the windscreen.

Polarized is bad with screens period. And I don't think polarized is even FAA legal to fly with.

Good to know...I did not know.

I found an FAA circular online that said polarized lenses are "not recommended" but didn't use the "illegal" word. That said, makes sense as they do pose some screen brightness issues.

Wow! I'll be so much with better with new lenses. 320 captains will rejoice at the much-needed improvement. :D

I'm currently using Oakley Canteen's and they work great on all three. But I may check out some Serengeti's based on the above thread.

Yep get the Serengeti's - if you look real close at the approach plate notes you can see a little note that looks like this *S*, and lists the lower minimums for Serengeti equipped aircraft. :D

Scoop - And I hope no one thinks that I am serious.

Concurrent with the "new" DeltaNet coming online--when it went to a MS Sharepoint domain.

My personal belief, the bandwidth argument is BS--has more to do with the ability to easily block/allow an entire domain (e.g., delta.com), but far more labor intensive to piecemeal block/allow a domain, particularly one as large as Sharepoint.... I think it's got a lot more to do with GoGo worrying about people getting "free" internet than it is about Delta trying to take anything away. Of course, Delta could have (should have?) taken a stand on it, but they chose not to. As you say, GAS factor low, since the only thing I ever look at on DeltaNet is Crew Resources stuff (AE postings, monthly bid packages, etc.) and training--and neither area qualifies as "gotta have it now." TravelNet & iCrew still available--I can live with that.

Now, I do think GoGo makes a huge error by not offering a substantial discount to us. Make it worthwhile, and those of us who commute would line up to buy their service--as it is, it's overpriced.
