E175 Captain, with only FADEC/glass time...1 year on the 88...to 88 captain.. Yeah. That's safe.

Speaking as a guy who came from the military flying a heavy with automation very similar to the 88...........you are full of crap.

At this point the pilots getting hired by Delta are very sharp, and while the sim training leaves something to be desired, I have complete confidence in the LCA corp on the 88. This captain, and any other captain, will not be signed off if they are not ready to go.

Every pilot, my self included, tend to think we are the ace of the base and no one can fill our shoes. The fact is we are still hiring some pretty smart guys and gals and they will do a great job.

.

That's my background too. I guess we reached different conclusions.

There are still airplanes in the military that don't have GPS?

All this talk about quick upgrades and safety is BS. The quick upgrade is the only benefit of getting hired now at Delta.

Delta has the least amount of wide bodies, low pay, uses far117 as its contract, almost 2 vacation days to one work day, work more or the same as a regional, 10 hour overnights, sick leave witch hunts, extension and fatigue pay issues, you have to pay for your training hotel, Training is almost all self study these days, open contract with potential for more concessions to work rules and future growth.

Delta is lucky to get the pilots they are getting looking at the pay rates and work rules of other carriers both passenger and boxes.

And, I've got to ask the question: why are they still awarding 747 F/O positions? Look at the August reserve list on that thing compared to any narrowbody aircraft in NYC. Can we borrow some of these guys??? And that isn't a jab at 747 guys. If I could hold it, I would and gladly commute to reserve. But I don't understand the logic behind awarding that to people when they appear to have more reserves than they know what to do with, the summer months are over and the fleet is shrinking. Meanwhile...in narrowbody NYC land there isn't a single day of positive reserve coverage on the 717, M88, A320, or 757 (and just a handful on the 737 right at the minimum level). Again....not an attack on the widebody guys. I hope to be one of you someday. It just makes no sense to me why they underman NYC so much and keep adding bodies to fleets that seem to have plenty of bodies already. I'm hoping the 500 new hires coming July through October will help things out with some schedule flexibility and coverage.

They double down on 747 SC quite a bit and there are instances of SC guys not being there when needed. In the past year, we've got messages from the fleet detailing post- push turnarounds that needed to be recrewed and emails giving heads up to charters and other pending ops that might impact the reserve ranks; closing with a "seriously guys, no kidding, be in position for SC next week." Every flight out of DTW is four guys, so a timed out crew hits the reserve list hard. The financial fallout from a 747 cancellation due to insufficient crew is epic compared to a Mad Dog, so it seems there is no shyness in staffing the Whale. You could effectively divided available reserves by two for making a NB fleet comparison.

Actually it's 9 hour scheduled layover if deadheading out next duty period...because it's scientifically proven that you don't need 8 hours of sleep when deadheading in a middle seat in the back of the cattle car.

2015 Delta Hiring demographics?

Last year these 2014 new hire infographics (links below) were released on the DeltaMEC facebook page. Did they ever release any info about the 2015 hiring demographics? I can't see anything on their page and I would love to know how these numbers changed year over year.

thanks in advance!
