Yes. Your PBS-awarded schedule means nothing to the OE Planner. Anecdotally only, most of them will "try" to fit your OE around your X days, if only to keep you usable to the company following training (vs having PB days give you more days off later in the month)--but that's not guaranteed.

Communicating "I need ______ days off" to the OE Planners is done via iCrew; still not guaranteed, but if they can fit it (in seniority order), they're supposedly required to do so. Close-in, calling your planner may be the only means you have to change things.

Your PBS awarded schedule does mean something. Work with the OE planner... sure, do that. But if you have an X day or * day you are not contactable. You could be off polar bear hunting in Alaska. You are not required to be available 24/7 while awaiting OE.

Awkward commuting question from a new guy: When you luck out with a first class seat on your commute, is it uncouth to take the meal? Hate to make the FAs do more work for me...but love a free meal on 1st year pay!

What's the etiquette?

Is their job, just like you fly them when they themselves luck out with first class. Dine away and don't look back. You'll have plenty of long dead heads in a middle seat to sooth your guilty conscience.

WRT etiquette, I wouldn't ask for stuff when they are busy and aren't offering...but on their schedule allow yourself to indulge. Most are very professional and attentive.

After the 100th time not getting fed but seeing the FAs leave with a bag full of meals for their cats, this will give you a happy chuckle.

I've been flying a lot of NYC-Florida turns lately with ATL flight attendants and almost every time I see the cleaners throwing away a bunch of first class meals when we land and we were offered nothing. Is this an ATL thing? Don't see it w the NYC crews

NBA charter. Nothing offered to us. The lead has a fairly large wheelie cooler. Packs it full of leftover meals and wheels off the plane. She must have A LOT of cats.

The PWA trumps your seniority--more accurately, seniority doesn't come into play (other than amongst fellow trainees). The OE Planner can schedule however they want (subject to vacation, as full of luv pointed out).

You could undoubtedly work it that way with a fortuitous layout in your schedule. What if, however, you have (say) Dec 21 - 23 on call, and Dec 24 - 26 are X days (or even *, if you prefer)? On 23 Dec, you get a 4-day trip (23 - 26 Dec)--hope you didn't buy any non-refundable polar bear hunting tickets. You'll get three PB days (23rd on call, but 24 - 26 X/* days each generate one), but that's a perfectly legal assignment by the OE Planner.

EDIT TO ADD: I'm obviously choosing some "worst case" examples here; the over-arching point is that your schedule means diddly until you're complete OE ("OK" on your schedule from your LCA). I assume the planners *do* look at your schedule, and probably try to honor it--but they're not limited by it. The OE Planner is a human being, sure they'll make mistakes, but they can also be talked to. On the one hand, I've had good results getting the time off during training I've asked for; on the other hand, I've never had a "big" ask and I don't know how busy they were--it's possible I got that time simply because what they gave me was what they were planning all along....

Are flights to and from HNL considered international in the sense that non-revs would get upgraded before revenue economy passengers?

Any revenue passenger will be upgraded if they qualify ahead of non revs. That includes involuntary upgrades both domestic and international. The policy about no involuntary international upgrades went away with changes in the regulations years ago.

I believe everywhere but ATL it is considered a complimentary upgrade for medallions and paying pax will upgrade before non rev.
