Hi All

Wife is retiring and we will transition to Delta Medical. Which plan do most pilots recommend (family of 4, 2 teens). Most importantly what is the monthly cost??

Thanks

I've got a wife and 3 kids and we're on the Bronze HSA. I think it's about 140 bucks a month. If you expect a substantial amount of healthcare costs or pricey perscriptions this may not be the plan for you. We've had the usual ER visits and trips to the urgent care, and still ended up waaayyyy ahead money-wise compared to the other plans Delta offered. As a bonus, we put the difference into the HSA every year and now we could cover the cost of a major medical event if something did happen.

Strongly concur. We "defaulted" to the Gold HSA (and HRA prior to that). The Delta plan comparison tool recommended the Bronze, and even with three kids at home, it ended up being far less expensive.

Same here. We've been on the Bronze for several years. If you can stay healthy for a few years of maxing the HSA out, you can sort of self-insure to take advantage of the lower premiums. After 2 years, you can cover the full max out of pocket, if the worst happens, and in the meantime pay less in premiums. If you get unlucky early though, you have to be prepared to cough up the $11k-ish max...

I like the HSA as a savings account (both to defer/avoid taxes and as hopefully another IRA-esque account). Now that we've accumulated a significant enough balance (to cover a rainy day), there's no way I'd go for the Silver or Gold. Just one opinion

School teachers have better medical plans than us. Been on my wife’s plan. Ready for Delta/ALPA to give us a better plan

How do blue days and coverage awards on RES work? I got assigned a bunch of pink coverage RES days in Feb but when I look at the reserve list, all days are blue with pretty significant overages.

PBS coverage and icrew required/available have nothing to do with each other. Why? I couldn't tell you.

The two are completely different systems and one is static and one dynamic. As I posted many times here the reserves required table should be called something else like swap drop availability. It sole function is to decide if swaps or drops are allowed based off a contractual formula. It has no bearing on PBS or desired or actual reserve Manning by the company.

Just got an award date for 7ER training. I need to get a Chinese Visa. Any info on where to look or how to go about this? Thanks!

search chinese visa in DLnet. It takes you to a CBIT link that walks you through it.

I'm having a hard time making the cognitive leap from PBS awards to swaps/drops. I don't doubt you're correct, but why would the company care whether I was awarded the XX days via PBS or I swapped to get them? On the 20th my bid to move RES days will go through and be approved, why not just award them to me in the initial bid instead of making me move days after the award?

Because if you move golden days they become regular X days and give the company more flexibility. At least that’s the paranoid point of view! (With which I’m VERY familiar!:D)
