I'm surprised the company isn't open to legal action if someone gets hurt. It's the company provided "campus".

I'd guess that a tremendously ample amount of security could be provided for a very, very small fraction of the money burning buybacks.

UAL puts crews, including new hires, into downtown hotels in a nice area (near our long stay location) and provides regular shuttle service to their "TK" campus.

The VA Ave area has potential and the location is convenient, but IMO its time to either provide the necessary 24/7 security for the area or move all crews somewhere else.

Think about the sheer stupidity of the situation. Many pilots can legally carry a firearm aboard a commercial airplane, but are prohibited from protecting themselves in a terrible neighborhood when they are in training -- even if they are legally allowed to carry a concealed firearm in Georgia. The company then exacerbates the situation by making you attend simulators at all times of the day and does not provide transportation or security. But they say be safe and be aware of your surroundings. I can smell that 4th floor BS all the way from Fayetteville.

They absolutely are. Might just take a law suit for them to make adjustments.

Question about buddy Pass travel....I have a friend wanting to fly Two short domestic legs on a one way pass next week and the charge was going to be $107!

I though earlier this year there was a big thing on deltanet about them reducing the buddy Pass charges to be more like other carriers. I thought it was suppose to be just taxes on the ticket...in the neighborhood of $30 each way. Can anyone shed any light on this who has done buddy Pass traveling recently for friends? Did I miss something?

Our buddy passes are next to worthless. They are cost effective on short legs but anything long distance is garbage.

Funny thing is this..we have family that live in Minneapolis and we’re in Seattle. Buddy pass cost is nominal to Priceline.com and Alaska is almost always slightly less then Delta by $40-50. Guess who they ride on?

Non-rev question: trying to travel with the family in March to EDI, Scotland. No nonstop service on Delta metal. Do we have privileges on KLM or AF to nonrev AMS or CDG to EDI? Can't seem to find it clearly spelled out on Deltanet anywhere.

You can purchase a ZED fare on either airline.

Minor nit: duty period minimum (DPM) of 2:00 is the exception to the rule on credit paying the last day--it pays on the day of the applicable duty period. So, any such trip will pay a minimum of two hours over guarantee.

Your larger point is spot-on.

Any pitfalls or suggestions? I live too far to drive my airport car out there and I think my regular routine of "walk wherever I want to go, whenever I want to because screw the criminals" may just be pushing my luck a little. I'm seeing $900ish on travelocity for the month.

I had a car when I went through new-hire training, it was nice to be able to get to the store, and see a friend once or twice. And my crashpad for the simulator time needed a car.

But when I went through initial on other airplanes years later, I didn't have a car and didn't miss it much. The combination of positive space home, packed sim schedule and studying, left me with very few times I wanted to get out of the hotel. Uber/Lyft is good for getting to the grocery store, and a rental car for a day or two is good if you just want to get away from the hotel.
