There is no 2 hour rule, unwritten or otherwise.

Read it again carefully. Then read it 4 more times and then report back that you are wrong. I know this well because I’m in reserve.

What CNI said. What you're referring to was always there, verbiage was changed (in our favor) to align itself with the PWA. However, many didn't actually read it, they just latched on to the 2 hours and rushed to the boards/forums to further their DALPA sucks agenda.

Clearly you are not based in NYC or LAX, because it would never work.

They can call all they like. You will "promptly report" when you get there.

We got all caught up on 40 minutes when that was the least important point I was trying to make. The use of OOB reserves stinks for the reserve and it stinks for anybody in-base trying to GS. Middle seat DH also suck balls, and when you get called out at 40 minutes prior to report that's all that's left and that's the only reason I even mentioned 40 minutes. I most certainly didn't rush to the airport, or make report time, or go to a school that anybody would brag about.

All that said, my reply was juvenile and I apologize to CX for being an ass in the reply.

Ok, but don’t be obtuse. You know very well what is meant here. Unless you were hired yesterday we have all lived with the short call requirement to be “promptly available” and live in the “general area” for many decades now. It’s not new.

2 hours has not been written into the PWA because we have negotiated the leeway to be reasonable and use good judgement. Yet there is always going to be someone who is going to ruin it for all of us by stretching “promptly available” and “general area” to unreasonableness.

As in trying to be 2 hours flying time away on short call, or live 110 miles away from the airport. (2 hours times 55 mph driving I’m guessing).

I don't see it as being obtuse, just responding for clarity. Lots of dudes out there passing bad info wrt to this change. Some barely finished reading ...2 hours, before they were tripping over themselves to get to CC or FB ASAP to report their anger over this "injustice."

It’s correct that two hours is not written in the contract. Over the last 30 years this item has come up numerous times and both the company and union have agreed that reasonably available is within two hours of the airport via surface transportation with normal traffic. You are not required to report within two hours as many things could delay your report like traffic or airport parking and buses.
This has been tested with pilots sitting shortcall in San Diego claiming they could drive to LAX in two hours and pilots living in Vegas claiming they could get there within two hours because of the flight options.
As other posters mentioned there are always a few that want to push things. In the end that causes unnecessary restrictions on all pilots where the group suffers for the actions of a few. The new sick leave policy is a excellent example.

Hans--I just looked at the Delta Perks site and it says there is a 20% employee discount with some caveats (shipping as cargo, mainline only, domestic and Puerto Rico only), so I think you got some bad gouge. I'd try calling again and see if you get a different answer.

110 miles is absolutely reasonable and not stretching anything at all, while that was even confirmed to me from the CPO on more than one occasion. I purposely asked this during a probationary interview so I wouldn’t find myself between a rock and hard spot with scheduling and screwing them over. I’ve always been honest when they (scheduling) call which is all they care about for planning purposes. When folks BS their way because they are sitting well outside something reasonable, then we shoot ourselves in the foot.
