I'd really like to make a change to this part of the contract. It sucks as a RES when there's no open time in-base and all of a sudden you get the 40 minute call out to go cover some NYC garbage with middle seat DH on both ends and 9 hours at the JFK crown. Just as bad when you see there's no RES coverage and just as you think you're gonna get that juicy GS the trip is covered by an OOB RES. Contractually legal, but just feels like cheating. I'd propose any OOB trip covered by a RES costs the company the DH legs as pay/credit above guarantee. It would be a nice benny in return for the kick in the junk or it would encourage the company to more equally staff various categories.

There is no 40 minute call out. You’re making that up. And sitting reserve is your choice.

I think next contract push for all in base slips covered first, then allow out of base slips.

Sitting Reserve isn't everyone's choice. No reason to pull the ladder up and not seek improvements even for those forced on to reserve by being new, or by their regression based on displacements or category closures. There are secondary and tertiary effects on many people beyond those who sit Reserve when we improve Reserve itself. The more in base pilots who sit reserve, the fewer commuters who have to sit Reserve. Why do you begrudge your fellow Alpa members who want to improve Reserve quality of life? Working for Delta is a choice, but we all still want to improve that experience, no?

Yes, there is. My last callout was 40 minutes until report. No repercussions for being late, but that's what happened. FO on the same 40 minute callout didn't even make push and they had to hold the plane. Any other incorrect all encompassing statements you need to make?

I sit reserve by choice during the winter months. I have a difficult time complaining about quality of life. Reserve is not everyone’s choice I agree. But it is a choice for many. I did call you out on the 40 minute thing because we both know that’s not a thing. Making things up only weakens our position when it comes time to make improvements.

To ask the company to be forced to GS a trip when they have reserves sitting around getting the guarantee is going to be a very hard sell.

Uh....yeah they can give you a 40 minute call out.

You don't have to make it on time, but they will call you 40 minutes later asking where you are, then again about 30 minutes after that, then the CP will call and ask where you are about 10 minutes after that call. Answer: About 40 minutes away like I told them I would be when they first called me. Don't ask me how I know this formula.

It can take you over 40 minutes to get just from LGA to JFK on a good day... If scheduling calls with something that short just tell them you will be there as soon as you feasibly can. If the CP calls, and you are within a reasonable distance there is no harm no foul. I am within 110 miles from LGA and gladly sit SC from my home. I guarantee you scheduling calls me on a weekday at 4pm that I need to be at JFK in 40 minutes, they will be waiting a long time for me to get to the airport, park my car, catch the bus, get through KCM, check in for my flight and hop on the airplane. I understand your frustration of scheduling giving you 40 minutes, but you can simply only do so much. Sitting SC in Dallas is one thing, being within a reasonable distance and crew scheduling wanting minimal time is another. That has nothing to do with wanting to sit reserve or being forced to due to seniority. At the end of the day it is our job to be to the airplane in a safe manner, within reasonable time... That could be 3-4 hours depending on circumstance in LAX and NYC... Not the pilots problem...

My SC strategy is simple:

I will always be 2 hours from EWR, or LGA, or JFK -- traffic permitting (pick one, and only one.)

I will never, ever, commit to anything earlier than 2 hours. Not even a "do my best." It will always be 2 hours (maybe longer during unforseen traffic.)

If I've been assigned a rotation and I'm driving I will not answer the phone.
