Exactly my point they are looking at a volume number to get a representative sample not a cross section. If you don't answer do they call someone else of the same age, base, seat and commute status? The answer is no, they move on to the next randomly generated phone number with the assumption the database they are provided is equally valid for all individuals. There is no time of day adjustment for those on international layovers or even those on the west coast. Sampling hours, availability of the subject, accurate phone numbers and other factors all add error to the sample.

I received a missed call from the same number twice. On the 3rd day I answered and it was the survey people. Unfortunately, I was on the way to the airport and couldn't talk so they scheduled a callback at my convenience.

Still doesn’t help when I can’t answer. Unlike some, I intentionally leave the house without my phone when I’m on my time. Per Delta, I can’t answer it on their time. Opinion only but I think the phone surveys are far from statistically representative. No holiday inn last night but my significant other was a marketing reasearch analyst and says they are bogus FWIW. If the word is out that this is retirement focused, who do you think picks up the phone or ensures the number is not missed?

That said, there’s no perfect solution but thoughtful contemplation from those who care to participate is better IMHO.

You are right when it comes to phone polling. It is much more statisacilly accurate compared to any sort of survey that does not garner at least 60 percent participation, and even 60 percent is borderline.

The problem with surveys (assuming low turnout) is that they are not much different than a FOX/MSNBC “go online to vote” survey. A huge self selection bias that will attract the most vocal which does not represent a actual crosssection of the population (pilot group in this case). As an example, one need to look at just about any social media site including this one when there is a “poll” taken on a TA. The results are never anywhere close to the ultimate poll which is the vote itself.

I know there will be an argument that anyone who doesn’t complete the survey shouldn’t matter, but that is not fairly representing all pilots and the survey is also subject to more gamesmanship than polling. As an example “I want a 100 percent raise!” in an attempt to drive the percentage ask up, but that is not their real ask.

The survey this time was also awful IMO. Trying to assign percentage wants on 10 issues at a time etc had a lot of my peers leaving it unfinished. I also think the way it was worded is going to leave the NC in a bind at some point when there are 132 items that are “must haves” instead of accurately defining the level of importance.

Sounds like they did not leave a message the first 2 times (my point) to let you know you are in the sampling. I would have never answered like you did and been excluded. I have answered “polls” in the past that ended up wasting 10 minutes of my time by asking a few initial questions like are you concerned about food safety and does your household income fall between x and y? After some time it becomes clear they are soliciting or have a political message so I don’t bother with numbers I don’t recognize.

Glad to hear that they accommodated your schedule.

DALPA sent out the number; last time it was 603-397-0635. I added that as a contact in my phone, called Delta Polling. It ain't hard - I answer and give my thoughts. I keep notes on my phone with the Keep app, so I have them handy any time and don't forget to mention contract issues I'm happy or displeased with.

I agree it isn't difficult which is why I filled out the online survey. I wish I could have double the influence.

I did the exact same thing - put the number in my phone last year, they have been calling from the same number (or area code, always New Hampshire) for years. I answered the phone last week, spent 13 minutes on the phone and made my opinions known.

So apparently the monthly update is down to just 2 items. Base newsletters are no longer emailed to us -- they're on Skyhub.

Can't find them on Skyhub.

Anyone?

According to the Flight Operations Weekly Update: January 16, 2019, Base newsletters will only be available on Skyhub. I'm gonna miss reading those. I'm certainly not going to be forced to start using Skyhub in order to read them.

I wonder how many people said “I’m certainly not going to be forced to get the internet in order to...” in the past.

Any other polling #s? I do have the one above in my phone. I must have put it in during the last round of calls.

So, don’t read them.
