So two weeks in a row I've been assigned a RES trip 2 days out. I called CS and they said it's because of a MED destination in the rotation. They have to give me 2 days notice so I can take the anti-malaria medicine. Both times I already had a YS in because I was first inline for a trip and wanted to have some say in which trip I get. 2 days out is still too early to be assigned a YS so the YS means nothing.
Most of the time I don't get the YSs I ask for because someone else snags the trips first. Now there's another way to not get a YS!
Whiny rant over. Hopefully this info helps someone out who is wondering why they got a RES trip 2 days out.

Just happened to me. That's why I hate ****ing reserve on the ER. When I was a line holder (I'm 50% in category and getting reserve BTW - not by choice) I would bid avoid any malaria destination. Unfortunately as reserve you don't get a choice. I don't keep malarone on the shelf either. See above line holder comment.
I tried frantically to get some malarone on a Friday before my trip. No luck. Heck if I was a junky and needed methadone, I could walk into a local clinic and get it for free no questions 24/7. Try to get Malarone in a day? Two? No dice. Hopefully I put enough deet on me to prevent from getting bitten. Guess I'll find out if that worked soon enough.
I am really starting to hate my decision to come to DAL 5 years ago. Should have gone with FedEx. At least there you get better service for going to places that require this crap. Our reserve rules suck. Our union sucks since the ATL surrender mob took over. Been really quiet lately. WTF.
Rant over. and hoping I didn't get malaria.
2 days is not enough to get Malarone especially when you get awarded that DSS trip on a Friday for a Sunday departure.

You're probably jealous FedEX turned you down.
I had choices. I made one. I regret it. Whats wrong with being honest about it? I have to live with that now. So there we are.
You need to stay in your lane.
Uh huh. Tell me again where big D touched you. And also, you are a douche.

As far as reserve you have no idea what a bad reserve system is. Try 19/20 days on call a month, 24 hours a day all shortcall. Our reserve system is probably the best at a passenger airline. The airline has to be able to staff the flying. From your past posts I suspect the only reserve system that would appease you is one where you called Delta if you felt like flying. Kind of strange with such a bad reserve system how many senior guys bid it rather than a regular line.
Since you only have 5 years here it’s certainly not to late to switch to FedEx. I suspect however you would be on their forums posting how bad it sucks there the day you came off probation.

you sir also need to make a choice. Live with regret the rest of your life? Or accept the choice you made, which ultimately was a really really good/fortunate choice. I think every one of us can point to things we don't like about D, but at the end of the day, we're still the "gold standard" of airlines, like it or not. You can still go to FedEx. They're still hiring.

I love when pilots who didn’t spend a decade flying RJs and turboprops on pre-117 schedules complain about how hard scheduling is. The lack of perspective in some people is amazing.
but hey, FedEx is still hiring and you could have easily bud another airplane in the last bid. So fix your situation.
