Rant over. and hoping I didn't get malaria.
I’ve worked at reserve at another airline that had us at 10 days off with a 75 min call out. Everyday. THAT sucked. But I knew it going in so I did it without *****ing. For me personally, I’ll take the cake walk of a reserve here any day. Any. Day. Bid what you want and all....not every fleet in NYC requires you to worry about malaria.

There’s still time to change your mind if you’re that miserable.

Also, Drum , if you’re actually 50% in NYC 7ERB, you absolutely are on reserve by choice. Sen #10100 has a full line, and that’s page 22/32 on the wide report, which puts them at about a year less seniority than you

the horror story I like to tell from my regional days was sitting reserve for 6 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on. Commute in night before the rsv because our regional was AM reserve by default. So 2 leg it to day 1. First 5 days, nothing. Get a call on day 5, converting me to PM reserve so I can operate a turn on day 6, making it uncommutable. 26 hours at home, exact same thing happens on the next stretch. So in 2 weeks, making 20K a year, I was home for 26 hours.

But yeah, Delta has the worst reserve rules in the industry.

Exactly. Even among major airlines, our reserve is cake. Im sure drum wouldn’t love UAL’s global reserve or AA’s short and long call lines.

I carry an old printed trip sheet in my flight bag to remind me of a 20-leg 3-day with two 8-hour overnights just to keep myself in check. It paid me almost $450!

Check out PWA 23.S for more info about the Reserve Utilization Order (RUO).

But in a nutshell:
- Open time is assigned to reserve pilots (within days-of-availability groupings) beginning with the reserve pilots within the lowest RAW value grouping and then progressing to the reserve pilots within the next higher RAW value grouping.

- Within days-of-availability groupings, reserve pilots whose RAW values are in the same RAW value grouping will be assigned open time in inverse seniority order unless one or more of them have submitted a yellow slip.

I had a fresh out of auburn flight school quick spin at the regionals 20 something at a pilot hiring conference tell me it would be good for me to get some experience at the regionals to see what a 5 leg day was all about. I let her go on and on and finally said I’ve done my share of 5 leg days, with body armor and NVGs on. That was the end of our conversation. I hoped she gained some humility for us lowly 3000 hour mil pilots. We’ve all gone through the suck. We can play the “I had it harder than you” forever. There is always someone out there that had it worse and someone that had it better. Just because you may think you suffered more (nice victim mentality) doesn’t mean we can’t improve things. I tend to agree, our reserve system is far better than most airlines. But it could be improved.

I’m not saying my suck was worse or better than anyone else’s (nice reflexive defensiveness). I’m saying Drum’s delta suck is not bad at all.

Really? “I love when pilots who didn’t spend a decade flying RJs and turboprops on pre-117 schedules complain about how hard scheduling is. The lack of perspective in some people is amazing.”

Sure sounds like it here.

Drum was saying they made a mistake coming to Delta instead of FedEx. I have a feeling that no matter how much we improve reserve and other things in our contract, Drum will never be happy here. That's a choice. There are a ton of things that need improving here, and we can all agree on that. That doesn't mean you should be thinking "if only I was at (insert airline here) my life would be perfect." I have buddies at every airline that can't comprehend some of our awesome things, and also can't comprehend some of our not so awesome things.
