If you apply PB days over the APD you get paid for those days and you can then pick up WS or GS. The PB days cover the APD so the computer allows it.

Field tested and it works

You got luck because the scheduler didn't know how to do it right. It happened to me once. ONCE

I hear a lot of good things from Delta pilots. I think it’s just a different culture of “this is cool, I like it here, let’s get the job done.” And the caricature at AAL is complaining, skeptical of management, and protecting old scars from less than optimal mergers. I think in reality they’re a lot closer to the same thing than people generally pick up. So, not sure if it would be worth the jump to Delta. But it may be.

Though I was at AAL for only a short time and my sample size there was pretty small, I feel like the cultures were mostly the same. I would say that the AAL guys were only slightly more untrusting/bitter at the company, but were all great dude/dudettes who I enjoyed flying with. I will say that switching to DAL was a huge increase in QOL/contract stuff, but I believe many of my big complaints at AAL were fixed in the contract that was signed after I left. One thing that surprises DAL guys when I tell them, is that I found AAL to be a pretty relaxed bunch. Heck we were even allowed to "dress-down" (polos/nice jeans) on Fridays/weekends during training, something that is allowed in the corporate offices at DAL, yet we don't allow it for us pilots in training.

This! There have been quite a few things that schedulers have done that weren't correct, good on you if it works to your favor. Unfortunately, that goes both ways, so you have to keep an eye out and know the contract. The biggest one I've noticed is not getting the correct PB days.

Hello amazing deltoids! I am dumb with all things regarding the contract and payroll. I converted this month however my 9/15 paycheck is basically the same it always is. Is that normal? Is it the “cleanup” paycheck for last month? Or do I need to spend 2 hours on hold trying to reach a help desk?

thank youuuu

This is one area of many in our contract where it’s way more complicated than necessary. I think if you converted after a certain day of the month (the 10th or 14th comes to mind), you won’t see the pay until the middle of next months check. I think you’re still getting the extra cash, but they don’t process your new rate until the next month. When I upgraded, that extra month wait was brutal, but the mid month check was a few thousand bigger than I was expecting, after it was all said and done.

Correct, with an unchanging ALV, the 1st of the month paycheck will always be the same, while the 15th pays the balance of the month PRIOR. Sucks to be paid in arrears.

True, but technically you’ll make it up on the back end by getting a couple of paychecks after you’ve already retired…

Crewdawg,

interesting perspective. Thanks. I’m not sure if Delta has a clear advantage over American when you measure up the pros/cons of each. A big exception pilots raise is that American might go under / liquidate some day but nobody at the company really expresses any concern about that. I wonder what I would do if Delta gave me an offer. I would be home based at either airline.
