Merge Complete?
Do I read this correctly??? I found it off the front page of msn.com.
Delta becomes the world's largest airline Posted Oct 29 2008, 05:10 PM by Kim Peterson Filed under: airlines, Delta, Northwest, Kim Peterson Say goodbye to another airline, now that the Justice Department has approved Delta's $2.6 billion purchase of Northwest Airlines. And that's not a bad thing, given the miserable state of the airline industry these days. The merger will produce the world's largest airline, which will continue to be called Delta. Northwest shareholders will get 1.25 Delta shares for each share they own in the all-stock deal. Even though the companies have been meticulously planning the marriage, it'll still take up to three years to integrate them. There will be a bit of culture clash at first, particularly since Delta is mostly non-union (except for its pilots) and Northwest is unionized. Read More... |

+2% system seniority with the DAL proposal.
-2% system seniority with the NWA proposal. Maintain your relative bidding power with the DAL proposal. Completely lose your relative bidding power with the NWA proposal. With the DL proposal, I gain 1% on the list. With the NW proposal, I lose 12%. On the DL list I am surrounded by NW pilots who can hold the same equipment, mid level narrowbody captain or senior widebody FO. On the NW list I am surrounded by NW pilots who are mostly narrowbody FOs with a few widebody FOs sprinkled in. |

My bad..... I thought we were still waiting for the final word from the department of jusitce. I didn't realize that they had made it official.

DOJ approval was today - as was DCC (date of corporate closure). As far as the financial world is concerned there is no more Northwest Airlines.

Enjoy your pay raise tonight, NWA boys.

with the DAL proposal, 10% of the NWA pilots got stapled behind the last DAL hire. Also NWA 99 hires were put behind 2007 hires. So neither sides proposals were "fair".
Middle of the road negotiated list might be coming. FWIW, I think we will see a ratioed list until we get to the 07/08 hires then they will DOH us. That will solve the problem of 99 NWA hires being put behind 07 Delta hires. Shortly after that, they will furlough us all and forget about us for 5 years. |

For the first part i think thats exactly how it should end up. For the second part, i know its easy to get worked up and think that their first order of business is to furlough pilots but there are a number of things that will help prevent that from happening IMHO here are just a few,
I am not saying it couldnt happen i am just saying there are more reasons to Not furlough than there are To furlough. IMHO We'll see! Cheers |
