Nothing but a permanent fence should be accepted, unless an AK pilot interviews with DAL and starts from the bottom just like the rest of us did. Pretty simple really.
I agree that should be a period of fencing and appropriate ratio, however I strongly disagree with the idea of permanent fencing. If we merge, they will be DAL pilots just like the NWA (republic, southern, hughes, north central etc), Wester, Pan Am, and whatever other carriers we have in our lineage. Fence it off for a bit to keep the initial shock as minimal as possible, and then have it be done with.... |

Slo,
What I am saying that there are some great expectations being fostered out there. There seems to be a big parade that this JAL/DAL hook up is a great thing..... I am wanting to see and read the details before I hop on a band wagon.

Was Frankfurt also slot controlled (like NRT)? Yes
When was open skies in Europe vs Japan (Not Asia)? 2/29/96 When did UAL get the code share with Lufthansa? 5/14/97 Was not the 777 going to be the Pacific 767? Some bought it for that reason. Delta and others did not. The 787 was to offer a smaller size 777 with longer range, better fuel economy, AND better maintenance intervals. Hopefully it will eventually deliver all those attributes...airlines have ordered 840 of them because of those features.

I truly due GET IT that any company must turn a profit. After this merger between DAL/NWA the pilots rates SHOULD HAVE matched or exceed AMR's rates at the time the deal was done.

For the record, Southwests pilots are where they are due to the chapter 11's in the 2000's by NWA, USAir, DAL and UAL. They were always under what the legacy's had paid. Their rates ,now in some cases, exceed wide body pay rates.

Of course. The baseline mainline fleet to add any 76 seaters is 768 jets. There are 33 DC-9-30/40 planned to be parked, so management would have to cover those losses with replacement aircraft and then add the number above to add 76 seaters,

If the negotiations drag out I might be able to settle for a 30 year fence. Anything else would be highly unfair to junior Delta guys who skipped AK, LUV, B6 and others to get to the WB flying with a Legacy. 30 years will also be in line with career expectations. This might sounds harsh, but think about it, it is not comparable to the NWA / DAL merger as far as eqipment is concerned. If we implement same pay for all aircrafts, which in reality is the only fair way of pilot compensation, I would still go for a 30 year fence. One thing I would also go for is to get ALL furloughed pilots from AK back flying before SLI.
Just my $ 0.02 I was thinking 10.... just trying to be reasonable and logical. |

AK stopped hiring long before DAL began its last round so any SLI would expose a lot of junior DAL guys to an unfair outcome. Junior DAL pilots who worked hard to get here should have their career expectation of flying a WB preserved over that of a AK pilot.

You know, if we had a real Union, instead of a Association of self-interest motivated MECs, we'd have a National Seniority List and all mergers would be strictly DoH. Too bad the United gorilla gutted the Merger/Frag policy back in the days when they were trying to screw the USAir guys in their original abortive takeover attempt. Oh well. If it makes you fellas feel any better, you can have all your widebody flying. The average Alaska pilot hates the idea of a DAL merger like poison. |
