I don't think it happens nearly as often as some seem to think, but it certainly happens and it needn't be some taboo subject. There's really no harm in discussing it and ways to minimize it.

Having said that, it's kind of eye-opening to hear people admit it publicly.
I might be careful about doing that. Even if you've only done it once or twice in a 30 year career, its still a violation of policy and you could get in trouble.

Agreed. Why anyone would admit that is beyond me. Never done it as I live in base.

This thread has provided me (a DAL hopeful) a wealth of info that I would never have had access too. It provides great ammo for my upcoming decision (hopefully at some point) of where to spend my career.

My opinion doesn't matter very much, but just wanted to let you all know that there are plenty of us out here, with no agenda, who benefit from this threads existence.

This is exactly why I refuse to support an exodus from this.

I read much of the "we gotta get outta here, people are watching" as self fulfilling prophecy more than anything.

People may be watching, but there is no info that isn't publicly available being divulged.

Wherever we go, the mgmt eyes will follow if they have the desire to. It's as simple of that. Reminds me of the Family Guy Star Wars thing:

"I got this, I know some moves."

"That was it? You're just listing lazily to the left..."

"Well, we're not where we were before...."

Like I stated 80 it was suggest to me more to get away from some of the trolls like the other board.

Probably a dead deal for now

[quote=Kingbird87;751677]With respect to everyone aboard, everyone seems to know what my intent was by mentioning the need to treat everything one says as in the public domain. It IS in the public domain, once you hit send, you can't have it back. Everything that is old is new again, and someday in the future, it will not be like it is today, and comments about using sick leave for whatever reason, BOB, insider information about strategic moves, job actions, etc. will be great fodder for an injunction, a deposition or whatever. This is a business we work for, and as such, all is fair which affects the bottom line. As long as I have been in this business as an employee, it has always amused me to no end when pilots think they are part of, or in the LOOP. We are not. We are a contract. We have faces and names, but we are in no way in the strategic operation of this business. My wife was a Sr. Financial Analyst at a large purple company and presented "Outlook Information" to the CFO and CEO each week. When investors sued the purple company for missing projections, guess who ended up deposed in legal proceedings?

You appear to be contradicting yourself - on one hand you say we are not in the loop and have no insider information and on the other hand you say we are discussing valuable company information.

I agree when you say we are not in the loop. Unless any of us have signed a NDA - I don't think we are taking too big of a risk by posting. Legally what is stopping me from repeating any rumor I hear, or posting and giving my worthless opinion on any internet article that I choose to post?

Numbers?

What am I missing? This may have been covered already, but who's got it right. Or are they looking at two different numbers.

"On Tuesday Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines ( DAL - news - people ) said it narrowed its fourth-quarter losses to $25 million, or 3 cents' loss per share, compared with..." Forbes

"On Tuesday Delta reported financial results for the December quarter and the full year of 2009, with a net loss excluding special items for the December quarter of $225 million, or $0.27 per share...." The company

Unfortunately it is the company quote that is correct (lower one).

Hey 80, they are both for the 4th quarter, just saying it two different ways. I wish the full year was only a $225 million loss.... ;)
