Saw where Frontier/RAH is now sending an E190 from DEN to PHF. So, thats nice, a company that does flying we should do is trying to take business away from us for ORF/PHF-ATL/CVG/DTW-DEN. Sweeeet.

Fleet Common down, now back to Lost.

BTW, DAL employees get a 21% discount on service and equipment if purchased online. It made my whole plan (2 phones) come up to I think $119/month plus tax. 1400 shared minutes, unlimited data, 200 texts.

Someone already mentioned urbanspoon. I use that and yelp (which is very similar to urbanspoon) to find out of the way places to eat/drink on layovers. It's nice to get out of the hotel lobby, and there's usually something better right around the corner. Both apps use your current location, and give ratings and comments from people that have been there.

ESPN Scorecenter is great during football season (are there really any other sports you care about anyways???.) And WunderRadio (about $6) is a good one that allows you to listen to any radio station in the world, as long as it's streamed over the internet. Nice for finding sports, radio from home, etc.

Skype is a must-have app if you do any international flying. All you need is a wifi signal and you can call anywhere for nearly free from your phone (about 2 cents/min). Make sure you turn off "data roaming" (Settings-General-Network), 3G, location, etc when out of the country or AT&T will SPANK YOU HARD. I had a trip to Calgary and neglected to do this when I first got my iphone. I used wifi and skype (didn't attempt to access the internet via cell data, only wifi) while up there, and lo and behold I had a $90 data roaming charge when I got my next bill. They took it off, but only after a huge hassle. The answer is to put your phone in airplane mode, and turn off data roaming when outside the US. You can still use wifi with these settings off.

Also, you can bookmark websites to your homescreen (ie Delta.com, mycrewguide.com, this page, etc) so you don't have to type it in every time.

Final tip, program your iphone so it will dial straight into the VRU phone tree. It looks something like this when you're done:

VRU: 1(800) 325-2739 , "6-digit employee number" * "password" #

type this in using the "pause" button to get the comma. You can find this by hitting the +*# button when editing a new contact. Enter the rest obviously with your own number/password minus the quotes. This saves a lot of headache and will take you straight into the VRU. The only downside is after about a month of using this, you won't remember how to do it manually. So don't lose your phone

Enjoy the new toy :D

Btw, I downloaded an app called PDF Reader. It too wasn't free but you can log into delta net or alpa and download files you might want. CA 09-12, the contract plus all the bulletins and notepads, also I got vol 1 and parts of 2 and some other stuff.

I think you will be in for a rude awakening when you get your bill. The discount basically pays for the tax and fees every month. 1400 minutes is 90 plus 10 for second line. Now add the 30.00 each for iphone service (ahh, the little details) and you will be pushing 200 per month. The phone itself is a C- for phone calls, but an A for everything else.

I remember when I got my first phone and I couldn't believe I was going to pay $40/mo for cell phone service. I went to get a new phone the other day, mine is over 5 years old, and the only phones I can get without data packages are small piece of crap flip phones. So I checked out the fancy new stuff and was floored at what people pay to have these phones! Basically if I want a new nice phone for myself and my wife I have to pay for a data package and the cheapest I can get my bill is going to be $70 + $10 + $30 + $30 + taxes. So I'm looking at over $160/mo for cell phone service. That doesn't include texting which would run the bill up to over $180 and it's only 700 minutes shared. I know it's cool to have the new "apps", but I'm thinking of joining up with the minimalists and ditching the cell phone altogether. I think we still have an option in e-crew for a pager #, maybe I'll go that route. :)

Has anybody used the APDL on the iPhone yet? Or any other logbook apps that will calculate pay, pr.diem, consider CONUS/ICONUS, ability to input our rules wheter they are contract or regs?? The day I can get a confirmation on APDL (or similar program) working, I will get one as well. Until then the old palm will do...
